Books - Guest - 01-07-2011 So. I've not read any new fiction in a while and after reading plenty of Fantasy books and quite a few military books (Andy McNab, Tom Clancy, etc) but very little in the way of sci fi books. Thus I decided to expand my library. So I need new books to buy. And that's where you come in, a lot of you are avid readers of sci-fi I have no doubt. So help me out. I've been getting particularly interested in reading Cyber punk recently, but I've never once read the genre so I wanted some suggestions for that. tl;dr I need new books. No Fantasy books. No military books. Sci-Fi and Cyberpunk are what I mainly want. Books - Gman513 - 01-07-2011 The Supernaturalists uhhh try some books by Vince Flynn and then there was someone else.......meh, cant remember. Books - William Frederick Cody - 01-07-2011 Hitchhiker's guide through the galaxy Books - Patrician - 01-07-2011 If you want Cyberpunk, you HAVE to read William Gibson; he INVENTED cyberspace with his novel Neuromancer. Bruce Sterling is good too. For Sci-Fi, try Enders' Game by Orson Scott Card or Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein. Do NOT think because youve seen the travesty of the movie that the book is the same. It isnt. Oh, and I highly recommend Alistair Reynolds' Revelation Space. Its the beginning of a trilogy and they are excellent although its considered "hard" sci-fi. Books - Guest - 01-07-2011 ' Wrote:Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein. Do NOT think because youve seen the travesty of the movie that the book is the same. It isnt. I actually loved that movie. D: But yes, I've heard it's an incredible book focusing on the effects of the war. As opposed to the movies "balls-to-the-wall" action. Books - Patrician - 01-07-2011 No power armor? Movie is irrelevant. Books - mwerte - 01-07-2011 Starship Troopers book is approximately 350% more amazing then the book. In a similar vein, Armor by John Steakley Books - Jihadjoe - 01-07-2011 Go read some Asimov. Seriously... Worth it. Books - Patrician - 01-07-2011 I agree with Joe. Try the Foundation series. Books - Backo - 01-08-2011 ' Wrote:Hitchhiker's guide through the galaxy I second that. Really fun book to read.:) |
