Poll - Changing commodity prices - daedalus - 07-14-2005 To promote more movement and role-play, and IF prices can be changed server-side, it has been proposed that the prices of two commodities at different bases in Sirius are either significantly increased or decreased so as to create new trading opportunities. This would mimic a 'dynamic economy'. Three options are in the poll. Personally, I would prefer prices changed but not to be told which ones. That way we have to find out for ourselves and either share it or keep it secret. There are ways to find out and that will be a challenge. Alternatively we could be told which ones on this board and why the prices have changed, for example a water storage leak at Solarius Station. Prices can also be changed to make mining more worthwhile. For example, a temporary increase in Niobium at Freeport 10. Mining is not usually worthwhile for making money as it takes too long. At the end of each week (or whatever period Igiss might decide on), the changed prices would be back to normal and two others changed. What does everyone think? Poll - Changing commodity prices - Circadian_Lupine - 07-14-2005 this DOES seem like a very cool idea, but i still don't see how it could be done server side only. If our goods.ini file doens't match the server's we would be kicked every 5 minutes Poll - Changing commodity prices - Profile - 07-14-2005 I think the prices must change only for week-end and players must be informed wich-ones by a little story on the forum (example: Water was infested by a virus on Freeport 10 , and we must bring them some.) That will create a Role-Play because Traders will trade this commoditie , Pirates will attack them , and Fighter will escort the Traders ... That will be cool ! If our goods.ini file doens't match the server's we would be kicked every 5 minutes Yes, that's the big question. It's not the same as creating new commodities, which would have to be part of the mod, but the fact that I've never seen it done on another server makes me wonder if it is possible. I do know though that a lot of things can be done server-side. I've been on FL 1.00 servers where things have been very different, but without the need for client mods. Poll - Changing commodity prices - Wrath - 07-15-2005 I think if prices changed players would need to be informed. Where's the player interaction if this week's price change is sercret? Also, I think we need to make it so that anyone carrying goods to take advantage of the price change is open to pvp. However, make the change so dynamic that you'd be crazy NOT to try and take advantage of the change.....unless the pirates are guarding the delivery system. Poll - Changing commodity prices - Igiss - 07-15-2005 Okay this is the complete list of serverside-only mods from TLR (by Chips). Goods are not there, as you can see. So it will require both client and server patch. This means that option no.3 in this poll is useless. We simply cannot do it without informing players. Server Side Modifications can be done are: Battleship encounters NPC's flying other FL ships (xenos in eagles) Increased difficulty AI NPC shields regenerate/NPC's use nano bots and bats Change of loot drops by NPC's Changing encounter zones/types Unlocking locked jumpgates (needs total character wipe) Changing NPC loadouts Adding more encounters Changing starting money Changing starting position Changing starting rep Making the order fly stuff Adding nomad encounters etc to where ever you like. Poll - Changing commodity prices - Wrath - 07-15-2005 How about some red hessians or something in rhineland battleships or cruisers or something, in a specific zone only. That would be sweet.... Poll - Changing commodity prices - Elvalia - 07-15-2005 I voted for the second option, even though Igiss' post makes the third a moot point I figured that if the price of an item increased dramatically that it would be in the news, kind of like the price of oil or something. Because of that I figured it wouldn't make sense from a roleplaying stand point to keep it a secret. Not that it matters much anyway for me, I'm still to tiny to participate :P Poll - Changing commodity prices - david421 - 01-04-2007 coming as a trader, when I buy something, I usually check the list price I got when I landed on that station i am interested in sell to. If the price has changed, can you indicate it just by changing the color of the text? Lets say Alien Organism's bought at Cambridge Research Station have gone up, I would see the price change in the list i have which is updated through the Neural Net If the prices change daily, They have the capability to update the buying price, the question is, can the server be adjusted to show the change as it takes place? Jack Black Poll - Changing commodity prices - Spacewolf - 01-04-2007 mayby next christmas you can make it so all the ships drop some thing worth while or special weapons or maby a cirtain sets of ships drop them |
