Question about Nationalities and Hotspots - Heimdall - 01-14-2011

Hey there,
I´m pretty new to the game, played for about 8 hours now. I did not start with a Liberty Char but /restart rheinland since I found them most interesting. However, I noticed that Rheinland isn´t that well populated it seems. This leads me to some questions:

1. When I start at Liberty, I am neutral to every faction, except RP-wise Rheinland which they are at war with, right? But how binding is my nationality? I am only identified as Civilian or Freelancer and have a Civilian Vessel, can I go anywhere I please/join any faction I want(with some RP reasons maybe, like my parents belonged to nationality y but lived in Liberty)?
Can I just start as a "blank" who happens to be on New York atm?
I ask because I want to build up my reps myself instead of "inheriting" them like with Rheinland...

2. Where are the hotspots in the game? Which house has the most active groups etc? I mean, where is stuff going on at the moment? ^^ I haven´t seen a statistic which house/faction has how many members etc.

Thanks!

If you're a Freelancer or a Civilian you have free roam of basically everywhere you aren't hostile with. Given that you know how to act when near a certain faction. And your nationality isn't very binding here. You can be a Rheinland Lawfull, and then decide you want to /droprep and move to Liberty to be a LN instead. Or vice versa. Yes, you can apply for any faction that has open recruitment. It doesn't necessarily have to be that char, mind you. You can apply, and if you're accepted, you can make your actual char and set him up accordingly. Also, starting as 'blank' in New York is perfectly fine in-RP as long as you don't have like a Rheinland Military ID, then you'll probably get shot.

Hotspots are basically everywhere. It just depends on who's on and where. But places like Dublin, New York, Omicron Gamma/Alpha are your usual hotspots. And no house has 'members' per-se, 'cause a Freelancer can walk on in to New York and decide to stay there for a month, and then go to the Omicrons and turn into an Outcast. That's just an example. But generally, Liberty has more people in it. Including factions like LN which are very active and rouges and such.

Hope that helps.:)

I see, I thought most people stuck to one role.
Though I´m not sure I fully understand this: A freelancer can work for different parties, that´s clear. But do people actually switch IDs when they work for someone else? So I go to the Pirates, get a Pirate ID, enough pirate for me so I go to xy police, get police ID and start fighting the pirates? All with the same character name...?

But thanks so far, you were very helpful

Well a Freelancer ID lets you do many things. So no, you don't have to switch IDs or anything to work for other groups. And ya, most people do have a plan in their head for a certain char, and they setup their char, and that character usually stays just with that role. I was only giving an example.

Oi! No no no. Heh. Apologies, i should have made that clearer friend. Don't do the pirate to police back and forth thing. no no.:P

Safe Flyin'!:)

Thanks again, I´ll just use this thread once more for a little question:

I´ve started in Liberty, did one mission against the Rogues and am their enemy now... destroyed ~5 of their ships. Do I start with preset enemies in Liberty and I just don´t see it at the beginning cause I didn´t meet them yet or has one mission turned them against me?

Thought I´d start neutral in Liberty...

Yeah, well, you start off from Planet Erie, which is run by the LPI if I'm not mistaking, so yeah, its preset to be unfriendly towards most unlawfulls.

Try using the /restart commands.

NOTE be careful with restarts. Before do restart switch all your money to other your character, cause when you so restart you are losing ship(on char that you are restarting,), credits, guns, cargo.

I have done this mistake and lost about 20 mills:(
