Help! Semi-Invisible Planets at 2k distance! - william240 - 02-25-2011

So yes, I have a graphical problem with FL. I am able to see "through" planets where the land mass should be at. For example, Planet Manhattan, I am able to see its oceans and the atmospheres and the clouds. But where the continents should be, all I see is an outline of them and I am able to see through the planet, through those outlines. The same applies to Pittsburgh. All I see an outline of the planet, an atmosphere and some clouds but no terrain. I am also running the settings on MAX so that doesn't do anything too. While this isn't gamebreaking, it certainly is annoying since I would like to marvel at some of the planets again.

I have done a clean reinstallation and had no success. I highly doubt that it's my computer but like so many of us, I am using a graphics card that is not recognized by the game ( go figure). A Radeon HD 4850.
If anyone has an idea on what I should try, please, share with me your divine knowledge.:D

NOTE: This doesn't apply to all planets! I was able to see Maine in it's full detail but not all planets fall in place. Houston also appears the same as Manhattan and Pittsburgh.:(

Your problems likely stem from your graphics card not being recognized. There's ways to get the game to accept newer graphics cards, which will likely sort the issue, or at the very least speed things up. See here:

Also, turn all your performance sliders max detail. Many models don't render on lower settings.

I have tried those methods and still my problem persists. My drivers are up to date. I have reinstalled FL about 3 times now, I go to the performance menu in FL and set the slider all the way to maximum and still the same thing. I have attempted to add my 4850 into the list of recognized devices on the flconfigdatabase.txt and still no luck. >:(

Thing is I still have my old Radeon 8500, which is mentioned in the database as a recognized card and FL used to work perfectly with that card. I changed cards because I needed to upgrade. I really don't feel like going back to that card for just one game.

But knowing myself, I must be doing something wrong in the database. I understand, from the posts in that link, that I have to create a new device id? So I would have to type: 0x9442 = " Radeon 4850 HD" ?
Or must I replace an exsisting card, like, 0x4242 = "Radeon 8500" and insert the 0x9442 = "Radeon 4850 HD" in place of that?

PLEASE explain because I'm apparently not as tech savy as I once thought.
