hey i Think it would be great idea to have a charater select at the start of a multiplayer game. Like when the 3d picture of Edison trent comes up, you could change the avatar picture; to a bounty hunter, Liberty Rouge, freelancer, Poilice or trader.
And for the campaign you could add your own cinamatics. A great program to use would be i clones 2.5 studio edition.

cannot see your pictures. anyway - yes it would be nice to customize the "avatar" for the cutscenes and so - but i bet most ppl just click them away anyway - and allowing to customize the playerchar would cost quite some server resources.
in the actual game ( that is the multiplayer part in space ) you cannot see the pilot anyway. so - not sure if its really worth the efford. - in singleplayer you can at least customize Trends uniformstyle.

you can actually change your character's look in the cutscene. I remember on FW we did had a function, when you wrote /robottrent I think, it made your trent become a robot... and /monkeytrent made trent having a monkey face.
Clientside stuffs, not really useful except for your own entertainment at watching your custom trent.

:secret:Xing, every player is the only one, who will see his Avatar on stations. So a tool that works just clientside would be enough, without stressing the server. I'm for, because i don't like to see my KNF char with Trents face and leather jacket.

well, in a way - i would like a tool that changed the appearence of my avatar, too. even if its of course just for my own entertainment. - if the chatsystem wasn t hardcoded - it would be awesome to have a little pilot picture + name under it instead of a <name>: chat ... in systemchat. i guess that would have to be a total conversion of freelancer.
and yes - its funny when you are playing a char - and you forget to cancel the cutscene - and see good old trend there again. it looks ... wrong.

My CR combat vessels have the LPI uniforms too. And I must say they match the colonial uniforms roughly. I don't mind...
However I'd expect something less ahem... "lawful" for a smuggler or pirate.
