Project: GOLEM - Sebastian Wolfe - 03-26-2011 Sebastian sat at his workshop, set up with permission from the IMG on Java. It was a small area, more like personal quarters with a desk and some comupters, but it didn't need to be overly large, given his work. He had created his bombers' gunner AI here. He had also programmed the various AI units he'd installed into the LNS gunboat he maintained here too. But, it was too small for his next project. That's why he'd snuck into Gallia to purchase a liner. It was a real rust bucket, but it was just what he needed. Still, he couldn't keep something that large in the Taus, it'd be a sitting duck for the 'casts. Heck, they'd already blown it apart once by the time he'd found a crew willing to head out into the rest of Sirius to gather any research data on AI units that he could. But, it'd been successful. The research had granted him exactly what he'd needed to finish the GOLEM project: an AI created from the brainwaves of a person, capable of emulating their personallity and retaining their memories. All he needed now was a vessel to mount this on. He'd already eyed up a ship type, though getting his hands on one would prove to be difficult. He'd determined from his experiences and the feedback data of the LNS-Wolfcrest that the ship he needed was a Lane Hacker gunboat. No others had the size and computational power needed to house an AI of this complexity. And so, he'd programmed the Wolfcrest to actively retrieve Hacker Gunboat components and store them at a warehouse he'd hired out on Liberty. Then, either he or the liner would pick up the parts and ship them to Java, ready to put onto a Colonial transport and shipped to Singapore for repairs. "Sebastian, this is Dr. Moore. Please respond" Sebastian picked up the communicator. It was the liner. "This is Sebastian. What's the situation?" "The Wolfcrest's bagged another one. We're looking at what it's collected, and it looks like we have enough parts now to finish the project." "Excellent news. Deliver the parts to Java, I'll prepare the next transport." Sebastian switched over to the Colonial frequencies. "This is Lt. Wolfe, I'll need a transport at Java ready to go in 10 minutes. Orders are to pickup some ship components and myself for delivery to Singapore. Codeword: Golem." Closing the line, he smirked to himself. This was what he'd been waiting for. Time to get to work. Project: GOLEM - Sebastian Wolfe - 03-26-2011 Sebastian stood at the window, watching the AIRV-WolfTech finish docking maneuvers. The liner had arrived, with the components in it's hold. Once it had finished, he walked towards the airlock that would take him on board. As the pressurisation took place, his mind revelled at the possibilities this new acquisition would unlock in terms of his research. The door opened, and a familiar face greeted him. "Doctor, good to see you again." "Likewise, Captain. Shall we get down to buisness?" Dr. Moore led Sebastian to the hold, where the components were being stored. They consisted of a majority of the inner workings of a Hacker Gunboat, as well as several exterior hull panels and large parts of the secondary engines. They seemed to be in moderate condition, slightly charred from a firefight but still salvageable. "So, what do you think?" "They'll need some work before we can install them, but it does appear that this is indeed the final pieces we need. Anything else we can supplement with some IMG tech." "Very well. Any further orders, sir?" "Yes, actually." Sebastian slipped a datapad to Dr. Moore. "This contains the final version of a program I've been working on. If it works, it can extract the ship schematics from nanobots. You just need to take out the target ship before it can use them." "Uh, sir? The Wolftech is not what you would call combat-capable." "I know. There's two copies of the NanoBreaker on there. One's for you, the other's for Wolfcrest. If either of you spot an AI vessel, you can use it to gain some insight into their ship configurations." "Oh, I see. I shall see that the Wolfcrest gets this once we next reach Liberty." "Good. Now, unload these components onto the transport in Bay 7. I shall see that they make it to Singapore. I shall be in the conversion room, working on the key component of the project." "At once." Project: GOLEM - Sebastian Wolfe - 03-26-2011 It had taken a few days, but Sebastain had done it, with the help of some of the liner's engineering team, he had managed to cobble together the machine that would, with luck, create this new generation AI system. The device was large, almost the size of the room, with a large computer console and a chair with a scanner over it being the more notable features. Simulation results showed promise, and the device was now ready to be used. "Thanks for the help boys, but I think I can handle things from here on. Tell Phillip that it's time we got Golem to it's final stages." "At once, sir." While he waited for Dr. Moore, Sebastian decided to check up on the testbed of the project. He reached for his communicator. "This is Lt. Wolfe. What is the status of the Golem project?" "Primary systems are installed, the AI datacore is installed and awaiting download. The ship's hull panelling is nearing completion. Estimate another 2 hours before completion." "Excellent news." As the communication line closed, Dr. Moore arrived. "So, it's time is it?" "Indeed, doctor. Man that console over there, while I get into position. I'll let you know when I'm ready." "Roger" Sebastian sat down onto the chair, with the doctor manning the console. The scanner slid downwards towards Sebastian's head, eventually coming to rest within an inch of it. "The scanner is primed and ready. Last chance to back out, sir." "I'm the one who spearheaded this research project, and I want to see it through to the end. Fire it up." "Very well. Good luck sir." The machine ban to emmit a low hum. The scanner began to vibrate slightly, and the various lights that Sebastian had installed as diagnostic tools to ensure that power was flowing as it should lit up as expected. The scanner produced a long red line that swooped down Sebastian's face, ending at the neck. It then rotated 90 degrees and went from his left ear across to the right. After repeating this a few times, the scanner withdrew back to where it had started from. "Well, that went as expected" "Indeed. Now we just have to wait for it to use the data to create an AI." "Indeed. Then the hard part will be getting it to the Golem." "Actually, that part's been bugging me for a while now." "I already told you. Once the ship's done, I'll have them ship it to Java, where we can do a standard hard-line transfer to-" "Not that bit. Do we really have to call the ship Golem?" "No, that's just the codename for it. I already have a name in store for the ship." "And what would that be?" "Cyberstorm" "Sounds intimidating" "Precisely." |
