A message to the people of Rheinland - Kanzler Schulte - 04-07-2011

***INCOMING RHEINLAND TRANSMISSION***

[font=Lucida Console]The press conference began, taking place in the east wing of the Rheinland Chancellery. It was an exquisitely decorated room, golden ornaments in place along the walls creating a sharp contrast with the plush leather seats dedicated to the press. As the Kanzler calmly strode into the room and took his place behind the podium, everything fell silent and he began his prepared speech.
[font=Lucida Console]
[font=Century Gothic]Meine lieben Menschen in Rheinland,

It is with a grave warning I come to you today my people. As we have all undoubtedly heard, there are troubles brewing in the sigmas. The conflict between the GMG and Kusari has escalated to open combat after GMG ships opened fire on a Samura transport. With a war already upon her, Rheinland had no desire other than to see peace brought back to the sigmas. As a fatherly and guiding measure, Rheinland dispatched peacekeepers to the sigmas, bringing with them the hope of a swift end of this crisis. What our brave solders faced when they entered the sigmas was something that none of us had foreseen.

The small peacekeeper force sent into Sigma 17, on its way to planet Kurile to help Samura and GMG forces resolve their differences, ran into an amassing Corsair armada. The brave men of the 15th Cruiser Group, consisting of the Gunboat RNC-Hansa, two of her fighter escorts, and their fuel tanker, faced off against a fleet of corsair marauders. Ambushed by no less then two corsair battleships and numerous small fighters, the valiant actions of the RNC-Hansa, who's crew sacrificed their selves for their comrades, allowed Rheinland civilians aboard the KMS-Berlin and her fighter escorts to make it to safety on planet Kurile.

The acts of the RNC-Hansa must not be forgotten, and must serve as a deeper warning to all Rheinlanders in these trying times. With their noble sacrifice, Rheinland has learned of a gathering Corsair fleet on the edge of Rheinland space. We have not forgotten what occurred last time the corsairs gathered a fleet of this size in the Sigmas. Frankfurt under siege, the first corsair war shall not repeat itself while we Rheinlanders have a say about it. We are not the type to allow these corsairs to gather at their leisure and pounce upon Rheinland at a time of their choosing.

In light of the discovery of a Corsair armada gathering in Sigma 17, The Nation of Rheinland hereby declares a start of anti-corsair operations in Sigma 17 with the goal of countering the growing corsair threat which has been discovered in that area of space and preventing what may very well be a second corsair war taking place in the homeland.

***TRANSMISSION ENDS***

A message to the people of Rheinland - elrica - 04-07-2011

*the reporter raises her hand sheepishly*

So... are we correct to presume Reinland are officially at war with the GMG again? If this is a limited conflict, how do you intend to avoid a repeat of the 80-years war?

Surely you must expect this to jeopardise relations with the Omicroners and nearby Zoners on Ames Research Facility? ... *she pauses as if choosing her words* ... can the Reinland really afford another devastating war?

A message to the people of Rheinland - Malenka - 04-07-2011

*a man comes up to the reporter*

The Kanzler never said that the Military made aggressions or is going to make aggressions to the GMG. The Military is simply going to kick the Corsairs out of the Sigmas.

A message to the people of Rheinland - elrica - 04-07-2011

*she retorts* With all due respect, the rumour mill begs to differ. A house military fleet expanding into independent space...with no assurances for safety of it's occupiers... It's only natural that people would draw these conclusions!

A message to the people of Rheinland - Volksfront - 04-07-2011

A big mess with many questions started after the first questions adressed to the kanzler

A Young man stood up and started to shout so everyone could hear him

...What is this about?...Dont we have already nearly all our forces focused in the war against Liberty?....

...How many Rheinlanders have to die, untill you realise the stupidity of your moves?.....

The people around looked scared at the young man. Talking in such tone in the public is not welcome in Rheinland.

A message to the people of Rheinland - DarthBindo - 04-07-2011

"Kanzler Rheinhardt, Richard Mier, Interspace News.
Why was such a large concentration of Corsairs so far up in the Sigmas? How do the Rheinwehr forces intend to keep the peace? If a fight breaks out between GMG forces and KNF, which side will you take? Is it true that several Rheinland transports have been interdicted by Hogosha and KNF in the Honshu and Okinawa system? What is your position on the KNF seeking the aid of known criminals who have attacked Rheinland shipping in the past?"

[font=Lucida Console]The Kanzler took a moments pause, looking at the young man who has just shouted. Shaking his head, he began to address the boy.

[font=Century Gothic]You there, young man of Rheinland,

You are indeed right to ask questions of why we mush fight, though I think rushing to the assertion of the stupidity of your elders may be a bit rash.

Young man, we must fight because we must defend our homes. If Rheinland was to lay down its arms, we would be overrun by the greedy Libertonians, to say nothing of the hungry Corsairs. Perhaps the first Corsair war was before your time. You must not remember what strife Rheinland endured; raids on Frankfurt, terror amongst the civilians on Fulda and Holstein.

[font=Lucida Console]The Kanzler looks down upon the mahogany podium and shakes his head before looking back up at the young man, a determined gaze in his eyes.
[font=Century Gothic]No, we cannot allow that to happen to Frankfurt once more, or Munich for that matter. The fact that the Corsairs have already began contesting the Munich system with Rheinland forces has made the reasoning behind why they are here abundantly clear. The reasons why we must make battle with them, before they make battle with us, is therefore self explanatory: We must protect our citizens, the People of Rheinland.

I hope I have answered your questions young man.

As for you Mr Mier,

Fighting has already broken out between KNF and GMG forces. The RNC-Hansa was initially sent in to try and secure peace between the two parties. Let me make it abundantly clear that Rheinland will remain a neutral party in this conflict. We have no desire other then that of peace in regards to the Kusari GMG crisis. As for the rumors of Rheinland transports seized by Kusari forces at the Okinawa border, I can neither confirm nor deny those.

A message to the people of Rheinland - Tomtomrawr - 04-07-2011

The reporter waited for the Kanzler to finish answering Mr. Mier's question before quickly intruding with his own. Forty years in the business had taught him that if you wanted to be the one who had your questions answered, you had to be the first one to start talking.

'Kanzler Rheinhardt, exactly how much of the Rheinland fleet will this operation use? Will these actions affect the Rheinwehr's ability to launch offensives against Liberty?'

A message to the people of Rheinland - Tomtomrawr - 04-12-2011

The reporter waited a few seconds, allowing the question to settle in the mind of Rheinhardt. 'Herr Kanzler?'

[font=Lucida Console]The Kanzler nodded to the reporter who had asked the question from the back row of seats.

[font=Century Gothic]Mein herr,

We do not expect a significant change in the strength of the Military's forces in Hamburg and Bremen. Most of the units used for this operation have been assembled from Frankfurt, Munich, and Dresden's garrison. As for offensive operations on the north front, we may be seeing a decrease in large scale actions due to the expenditure of H-fuel by the sigma group. Rest assured though, we have enough fuel stockpiled in the hamburg system to see to it that defensive maneuvers of the fleet can be carried out without impediment.
