Group Banned - Waratah - 04-20-2011 Why are people banned because of someones perception of a name..words in different countries can mean diff things entirely like Jesica in Serbian and Jesica in English and also there are females in that banned group why would they call them selves ball bag or what ever it was ment to mean. I talk to these females and fellas on teamspeak often and they have no idea why they are banned seriously. And i know you ban the person not the ship, but i think thats a bit harsh, when it effects 1/2 of another 2 factions on this server. These ships have been flying around now for many months with these names so why were they not at least warned earlier and asked to change the names, or at least spoken to and fined. Banning all their ships and not giving them any chance because you find them guilty before they can prove their innocence is unfair. You say no no no i dont believe you and thats it with out them having a chance at all. Very unfair in my opinion, hell im called Waratah for years now. Being an ex Soldier that served for Australia in Iraq and Afganistan, i could say i find the name Jihad Joe very offensive aswell, mainly the Jihad part. as that has different meanings aswell to different people. Why dont the admin that banned them at least talk to them on TS or Skype and listen to them. My 2 cents. Group Banned - Faca - 04-20-2011 ![]() In Serbia the word Jihad has a specific meaning In the past a holy war (Jihad) has brought us slavery and lasted for 500 years. I do not think you're thinking about it when you use the name of Jihad, but the name offends all Serbs on this server Group Banned - horvat - 04-20-2011 It's the Holy war Croatians and Joe(Jihad) - he is actually a croatian are working together to kick and ban every balkanian except us from discovery server.:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: Group Banned - Skyrim - 04-20-2011 ' Wrote:Why are people banned because of someones perception of a name..words in different countries can mean diff things entirely like Jesica in Serbian and Jesica in English and also there are females in that banned group why would they call them selves ball bag or what ever it was ment to mean. There is a big difference. They had multiple names that were longer sentences of swearwords. Not just one player or two players, but practically the entire Avengers group had character names that apparently were swearwords in another language. In the sanction thread, you see clearly Joe trying to talk to the players giving them at least three chances to come clean and admit what they were up to. He even said that they would only receive a day or so ban for doing it if they had the guts to admit. But they kept victimizing themselves, kept playing naive and trying to be "morally right". You see how far that got you. They digged their own graves, that thread speaks for itself. Trying to retaliate by exaggerating the meaning of offensive, then try to personally attack Joe (despite everyone knowing that it's not just one person in an Admin Team who decides a ban) is just incredibly lame and certainly doesn't boost in your favour for the side you are arguing for. There is a big difference between having the word Jihad in your name, and naming multiple characters with deliberate long sentences of swearwords or offensive material in their name, disguised in another language. Big difference. Seriously stop trying to compare apples and oranges. Group Banned - Friday - 04-20-2011 This is an English server. That being said - what is said casually in one language or dialect can easily be offensive in another. Can I use the Latin phrase "magna cum laude" (with high honour) in a name safely? What if I mistakenly think the word for murder in French is 'merde' and I put it in my name? What about a word like fanny? Different meaning either side of the Atlantic Ocean if I am not mistaken? What about some scurrilous Bretonian Junker asking a mate on a base if can 'bum a ***' (have a cigarette). EDIT : word is Eff - Ay - Gee What if every member of my faction just 'happens' to have a name that can be construed as offensive in another language? Is there any intent to be offensive in the above scenarios? Intent is the key factor here. One is random, two is coincidence - but ALL of them? In Australia we call that 'taking the p__s' (not to be offensive). This situation happens outside of Disco as well - in my own English-speaking country. A person with the car license plate "Kiki" was threatened by the motor registry office with having the plate confiscated because the word was offensive in another language. The motor registry office has since backed down. Group Banned - Jihadjoe - 04-20-2011 If the word Jihad is presenting a serious issue, then I'll change it. The joke, originally, is one on american foriegn policy and a pun on G.I. Joe. That joke has long since lost it's meaning, and I've been intending on changing it for a while. However the utter refusal to accept the fact these [Avenger] names are vulgar and offensive, in a kinda biological way utterly confounds me. If they're not intended to be offensive, then explain to me why literally every Serbian, Croatian or Bosnian I've spoken to about it has come up with the same translation... The players who have used these names, are predominantly from that region of europe, and would know what they mean... And yet, despite the fact I can very clearly see what part of the world these players are from, they are still claiming ignorance, after naming an entire faction after vulgar terms for genitalia, and it's use. I have have about 12 different people translate it for me before I banned them. All translating independantly of one another. Frankly, if these players think the admin team is stupid enough to believe this total trash "we googled stuff which sounded japanese and accidentally made names which are offensive in our native language" story, then that's offensive in it's own right. And i can certainly say i find the word Jihad offensive if i want to,i have a right to as many others would. But it dosent mean i want him to change it , its just proving my point names are offensive to some but not others. Group Banned - Cameron - 04-20-2011 English is a pain in this regard. Words and phrases can have double meanings depending on the context and tone they are spoken in. If the words themselves where offensive or vulgar then its understandable, but if they where phrases taken out of context its another story. If they where translated from or to another language that just causes all sorts of problems. Most translations are not literal because grammar differs from one language to another, so often you have to take what you know from both languages and re-phrase the passage in order for it to make sense. Either way, they should have received some warning and given a chance to respond before getting hit by the ban hammer. Even if they knew they where in the wrong, its just good practice to caution rule offenders that they have done something wrong before taking action against them. Edit: Ninjad... a fair bit Group Banned - Skyrim - 04-20-2011 It's funny how you all defending these guys, and themselves trying to come off as some sort of victims. When they know full well the consequences of putting those -deliberate- naming conventions utilizing a foreign language that they are -very- familiar with. It's so lame to see this white-knight behaviour, they got at least three chances to come clean and yet were so ignorant and so proud of themselves to even admit it. They deserved nothing but a big ban. Group Banned - horvat - 04-20-2011 ' Wrote:If the word Jihad is presenting a serious issue, then I'll change it.
