So, I want to know what the community thinks of feedback threads. I have not put a poll up, because I want people to post their opinions. What do you think the benefits of feedback threads are, what do you think the drawbacks of feedback threads are, and do you think the positive and negatives equal out?

And I shouldnt have to say it, but notice this is not flood. Act that way.

I think about 90% of feedback discussions ends in pointless rants that go way beyond the original point. If someone has a problem with a faction, they should take that to the faction leader (either with a PM or Skype). That way, issues can be resolved much more efficient and faster, without the popcorn public.

The endless discussion doesn't end because post people always want the last post on the matter to prove they're right. With a 1 to 1 conversation, the desire to prove themselves to the public on the forums isn't there, resulting in a much productive talk. I think a lot of negative feedback is also posted to get back at a faction, with a one-sided story for everyone to see.

Positive feedback can be posted in the kudo's thread, or again in a PM. So to sum it up, feedback belongs in PM's/Skype. Much more effective, much less flame-sensitive

Depends on the faction/story/event etc.

People nowadays don't understand feedback, and just use it as an "I DON'T AGREE WITH YOU" thread. Can be taken to PM in all cases. Pretty much.

I've always known them to be a voluntary phenomena that a majority of the factions do. More of a majority today then it was in the past. I admit waay back when we got the S/D feedback made and not long after the GMG| feedback I was into it because I considered forum PvP as part of the whole package. I keep the channel open so that the public has access to the means rather then have it done in-game. I get annoyed quick for each sentance I have to type in-game that's not in char which will conclude to me just logging off and forcing the person to address me outside of the game.

I've noticed that some feedback threads of certain factions exist for the mere amusement for the said faction. They don't consider the feedback, or the criticism, they simply laugh at anyone raising their voice against them.

Wup.. I put Celine's 2nd Law in the wrong thread.

I think it may apply even better here.

Generally, feedback is necessary to develop.

In FL (or inet forums in general) criticism often turns into flaming. And feedback threads are often the battlefield.

Judging from my (rather limited) experience, it's often the owner of the feedback thread that makes it move into a flamewar by not taking the criticism seriously.

I have seen a lot of "defensive", or "counter-attacking" postings in the feedback threads that make them useless for their main task: improving performance.

I think a feedback thread is valuable and helpful if you take any criticism seriously. It may only be calming but friendly rhetorics (if it's just a pointless QQ-I-need-to-get-this-off-my-chest posting) or the serious attempt to make things better if you think that it's worth it.

That, exactly. They serve no purpose : I don't see why feedback should be public.

I share Xoria's opinion on that matter. The less oorp talk about a faction is the better. I assume constructive criticism doesn't need a thread to reach a faction-leader.
