Tier 2 official faction status? - Cawdor - 07-09-2011

Now, we had several discussions about whether or not the activity requirements should be increased for the official factions. Of course, these were shot down because this would kill of smaller house pirates and shipping groups.

Partly because I want to entertain my self with this discussion and partly because I think there might be room for improvement, I propose the following concepts. You may support them, discuss a change of said concept or simply tear them apart and propose your own concepts.

Concept 1: The more active you are, the more rights you get.

Say you are a rather small faction. You have a small ZoI and only few active enemies. However, against all odds, your activity comes close to that of a navy.
In that case, more faction rights in form of a Tier 2 official-dom could be granted. This would happen proportionally to the size of your NPC faction.
Fox example: If a navy should prove to become twice as active as it has been until now, it may get half the cost of its bounty board refunded.
So as you can see, this is a more reward-oriented concept. However, it must be rewards that can be taken away. A faction must stay motivated to stay on tier 2.

Concept 2: The more enemies and ZoI you have, the more active you need to be.

Clearly, factions like the corsairs, outcasts and navies have to meet different activity requirement than repex and the AFA.
Imagine there is a war and no one is coming. At least to me, this sounds pretty scary since this is a game and I want to wage those wars.
Bigger factions may be entitled to more rights. However if they don't meet the criteria, they will lose the status.
This is a punishment-oriented concept.

potential rewards and punishments are up for discussion of course.

The whole point of this thread is ...

... to promote a higher level of activity. Especially for smaller factions.

People have real lifes. But I wish to see activity rule relaxed to small factions with small playerbase. Because simply there is no one to replace/join them. Or at least promote being official faction member, that would make lots of things easier with Volksfront.

Suggests those factions that are -that- small simply need to dissolve. We have way too many as is, and people are adding more all the time. Including your own Bretland expansion.

Well. I honestly don't care. Official status is more like e-penis waving. I personally like to play for fun, not from responsibility to hit some time for the tag I'll be using.

Also, there are afk camping, which would be problem when rewards are handed for online time.

in general, you cannot really force higher activity. - or let me rephrase it.... you CAN force higher activiy ... but you cannot force higher "quality" activity.

what i think would be more beneficial than activity assessments is that any official faction only receives the label of being "official" for like 1 year.

after that time they have to reapply to "keep" their official status. - becoming inofficial doesn t mean they loose their property ( stations / systems ) - but it means they loose their faction rights.

that way - we wouldn t venerate the old and rotting corpses of ancient days where factions were approved with rather rediculous rights and special RP - but each faction would simply always be up to date.

making a great difference between the factions as such is hard to do - cause who is to say which faction is small and which faction is large. - surely .... whenever there are multiple standards - factions will try to become the one with the most rights and the least requirements - and they will justify this with any means possible.

Bundschuh have too good RP to let it die. In your opinion we should delete one of most elite factions in positive meaning of it because we preffer to pvp with words most of the times?

Labeling yourself as elite isn't good image.

the server's capacity is 200. Last I checked, the VAST majority ingame at every time is indies.

Instead of trying to beat factions into being active, help them.

Snak3, I would not tell something like that about Order. It still needs fixing.

EDIT: Lots of fixing.

I think he meant 'hardest to RP correctly' by that. I can vouch first hand that perfecting Bundschuh RP is a real pain in the ass. I'll comment on the proposal fully when I'm not on and iPod.
