Mes salutations President of Deep Space Engineering,

This is Ambassador Marlon Boileau speaking and I am speaking on behalf of our General. One of your pilots, it must have been someone with a high rank, since he flew a... quite large vessel, contacted one of our trading vessels, the Saint Verdun. Shortly after this meeting the Captain of the Saint Verdun contacted our counsel about your proposal of an agreement. The message included demands of a tax and if our trading vessels wouldn't pay the tax they would lose the docking permission for Planet Pittsburgh. Since this would be a high loss for our economy we have extensively discussed this matter with the counsel.

Now I am here to gather more informations. First of all we, the counsel, are interested in how big the tax would be. Please keep in mind that the way from Gallia to Sirius and to Planet Pittsburgh is quite... long. Our trading vessels have to pass several systems, all of them have their own danger. Mostly there are pirates who demand credits of our trading vessels. So the point is that our trading vessels already have a high loss in their profits due to the pirates. If the amount of the tax will be too high we will most likely not be possible to continue with the trade of Tobacco to your Planet. And... I am sure you know that this would be bad for your inhabitants, since they are addicted to this stuff.

There are several solutions how to solve this problem. For example your company could appoint escorts for our trading vessels to increase the security of our convoys and to lower the daily pirate attacks on them. This would increase our profit and also the chance to pay the taxes you will demand. This is not a demand, just a solution.

So we just kindly want to know the amount of the tax. Once we know the amount we can continue discussing this matter and think about more possible solutions. Solutions on your side are as well welcome, so don't hesitate to offer your solutions.

All trading vessels of the Council have been told to avoid Pittsburgh with Tobacco until this matter has been solved.

We will await your response to this matter and to discuss further things.

Avec mes meilleures salutations,

Ambassador Marlon Boileau

Marlon Boileau,
  • Greetings travellers from distance spaces,

Today your shipment to Pittsburgh was indeed intercepted by a high ranking DSE official. We have recently had troubles with some of your countrymen making a tom-foolery out of us, so strict custom security have been implemented to reduce the illegal import of exotic tobacco.

As it is well recognised, tobacco is a most unhealthy and potentially deadly habit partaken by a small minority of our work force. I have recently discovered a new shipment of Gallic tobacco imported onto my planet, and I need to understand where this is coming from. The Gallic Mining Services left a bad impression with our last meet, and I am starting to suspect they are smuggling tobacco upon our planet. I want nothing more than a content work force, and so am prepared to make a compromise.

Once my investigations into the smuggling of tobacco are solved, and I can clear your organization from fault, I am prepared to take a step back, and see about a controlled supply of Gallic tobacco delivered to us by your firm.

There will be no tax, but a significant contribution to our Health Care system on a monthly basis to cover insurance for miners who smoke tobacco on my planet. Happy workers are hard workers, how ever we will not foot the health care bill solely for indulgences. Our current monthly Health Care costs range between 40 million to 50 million per month with out the smokers cover. If we were to incorporate that also, Health Care costs per month increase to 70 million, to almost 90 million. It is here I ask that a contribution of 20 million per month, covers the amount the projected bill will equate to.

We can provide assistance to your vessels within Liberty inner house systems, and your staff have free accomodation upon Pennsylvania Travellers Hotel, Section 4C, Pittsburgh Spaceport on Planet Pittsburgh.

If this is satisfactory, and you are removed from the suspected smugglers list, then I will be prepared to set a contract like this up.
Best Regards,

John Doe
President
Deep Space Engineering

Marlon Boileau,
  • Greetings my Gallic traveller, I must apologize for the immense delay in contacting you about a proposed trade in tobacco to our colony on Pittsburgh. We have had some serious internal investigations into illegal tobacco trading, some specimens even containing traces of Cardimine.

It appears through some kind of corporate espionage, DSE production of boron on Pittsburgh has dropped dramatically over the past couple of months since more banned tobacco was being discovered, finally the latest seizure contained the contaminated specimens.

I cannot ignore the needs of my inhabitants, and they dearly ask for more of the Gallic tobacco that was introduced, so I have come to a compromise: I will secure a steady import of Gallic tobacco for our people, and they reveal the contraband smugglers. This is where I come to you.

I am hereby requesting that you sustain my inhabitants needs for Gallic tobacco, but Deep Space Engineering is also interested in acquiring prometheum radioactive material for some development projects we are currently undertaking. I am willing to waiver the proposed Health Care tax I would normally impose on tobacco imports, if you would instead supply us with prometheum radioactive material.

I await to hear from you, and I hope this message gets to you in good time.

    Farewell, Au revoir
John Doe
President
Deep Space Engineering

Mes salutations President John Doe

We have indeed noticed the delay it took to propose the trade with Tobacco for Pittsburgh. However, meanwhile you were discussing this matter we had immense trouble with the trading of -any- goods. The pirate activity has increased dramatically and even mercenaries are after us. Trading vessels have been disrupted and even destroyed.

Anyhow, there is nothing we haven't managed to control, not in the past, and also not now. Howsoever, I am not here to discuss the problems of our trading vessels. I am here to tell you that we are ready to deliver you the Tobacco you are asking for. We even agree to deliver some of the prometheum radioactive material, but since they are not easy to get we won't be able to deliver you as much as you probably have thought of. But we will try our best to fulfill your needs.

Our trading vessels have been granted to head for your planet again. But time could pass by until we have fixed the immense pirate activity. We will try our best to fix this problem, so that our traders can continue their trade with Pittsburgh. I am sure you will see our trading vessels in Liberty soon.

That is all for now.

Avec mes meilleures salutations,

Ambassador Marlon Boileau
