First of all, let me introduce myself, I am the elected leader of the Colonials, a nation composed chiefly of the descendants of an unsuccessful United Nations pioneer colonization attempt. Let me congratulate you, that the French nation not only managed to survive the Sol cataclysm, but thrive in its exile as have but a few other postwar Earth nations.
I am writing in response to your communique from the 19th of July which raises some concerns due to precarious the situation me and my people found ourselves in without guilt of our own. What your royal highness named woe-begotten wastes is the in fact home to my people. Whatever your majesty's opinion, it does not befit a monarch to resort to insults. Prior to the Orkney minefield incident, life was hard enough due to the constant and ongoing hostilities between us and the Maltese - indeed the outlaws Your Majesty cited did arrive and especially in the case of the so-called Brigands, only aggravated our situation.
The Colonial Government considers the upper Tau systems as a its natural, recognized and factual area of strategic importance. Our military has standing orders to prosecute any perpetrators of crimes such as smuggling and piracy across the whole aforementioned area and does so with considerable success. Now from what I understood, Your Majesty's intention is to deploy military and law-enforcement units to the very same area for the very same purpose. Since I am not one to reject help from potentially friendly great powers, I would like to ask, that a formal agreement be written down regarding the establishment of diplomatic relations. For only afterwards can military and legal matters of apparent, mutual mutual interest be addressed. Without the infringement of international law, shared and perpetrated by civilized nations since time immemorial.
As for the Council, I am indeed yet to see whether their words are true. I am hoping, that Your Majesty's words as well as deeds will prove decisive in the matter.

As you do not seem to affiliate yourselves with them, I welcome you to swear fealty and loyalty to me, to pledge your allegiance to Gallia.
Should you decide to do so, there need not be a shot fired between us, your people may trade with our companies, and you will be welcome within my dominion. Should you refuse, however, you will not be spared my wrath, nor the force of my armies.
The decision rests with you, however, I would think most carefully on the matter, for one path is infinitely less advantageous for a small nation such as yourselves.

I never threatened to destroy any of Your Majesty's work - yet It is Your Majesty, who seems to wish, that an unaffiliated nation cease to be such - threatening what me and my people worked for. Smaller and less powerful though you may consider us, there is no law other one of forest animals, that would justify unprovoked use of force on Your Majesty's part against my nation. As I pointed out before, The Colonials both presently and as far as history is concerned - have nothing to do with Gaulish grievances - both internal and foreign.
Now whilst I asked for the establishment of formal, peaceful relations - the reply I received contained demands of surrender and vassalization. My personal opinion aside, since any decision of the sort encroaches upon national sovereignty, it has been put to referendum. The results are conclusive:

As a monarch, your majesty might have trouble comprehending, that mere serfs (we call them citizens) have say in how their country is governed, but this is the Colonial due process of the law. Vox Populi, Vox Dei.
And having received popular mandate to do so, let me express my deepest regrets, that Your Majesty's barbaric attempt at bullying another into submission on grounds no higher than ill-addressed vengeance, greed and uncalled-for belligerence will not remain unchallenged. As of today, any Gaulish vessel - that is military, police or corporate will be treated as agents of the Gaulish Monarchy and therefore representing The Crown's interests. Since I now know, that the said interests include unprovoked violence, the only suitable response is violent resistance.

It is rather humorous that such an insignificant and unimportant being such as yourself would stand up so ferociously to me. This reminds me of the time I chanced across a praying mantis that resided in my garden. The inferior insect had landed on the walkway from my palace, and sat in the center of the marble path.
