What's the ruling on an independent buying a planet in role-play? Is it allowed, what are the ramifications and so forth? Please note, I don't mean planets that are currently lived on. I mean ones that cannot be terraformed and are not actually used by the governments themselves.

Has no effect on mod lore and might piss of local parties, like pirates, corporations, guilds, or navies that have an interest in those planets.

What's an unused planet? If you find one that's uninhabited, I sell it to you gladly. :)

EDIT: But seriously, do it. I don't remember the Primusians had an problem with it. But in house-space? That would be difficult.

I was thinking something like...

Link

No way in hell would the governments be interested in that. But perhaps someone who can use it as a base of operations. Doesn't have to be Chisos, but something close.

I am sure it is possible to roleplay setting up a base on the planet by having a few heavy lifters bring supplies to the planet surface.

Maybe a "dockable" heavy lifter or something like that could be a player-built station in 4.86 around a planet.

Ah, you see where I am going with this. However, it would be better RP to actually discuss a purchase with the government that owns the system. I don't want a Corona Battle Group on my doorstep if you understand me.

If you can afford it and the local territorial sovereignty doesn't have a problem with selling an entire planet in their space to some stranger who might be associated with their enemies and let them base attacks from it, then go ahead.

I doubt anyone would care if you squatted on Chisos, but you could probably pay a monthly fee (like renting Ames' labs) to be able to operate a base on the surface legally.

Hence the negotiations of an acceptable sale. It's an unused planet. Wouldn't they actually want to sell it to fund their war? Since there might be player bases in the next mod I thought it might be prudent to try set something up. However, of course they wouldn't sell it to someone who was their enemy or someone they don't know. That goes without saying but if they knew what it was for and saw it could be economically feasible, maybe I could twist their arm as it were.
