So caps only have mortars for striking hard on the others, and it wastes LOTS of energy, so why not add torpedoes to cap ships for long range and ammo based, of course it would make sales of CD go completely to another dimension, but it would be more practical than a spam of mortars

Disruptors don't kill torpedoes any more. In the past you had Liberators with TCDs lulzing at Barghests as they detonated the enemy's own munitions in their faces (which was actually kinda awesome). Now the nova is immune to disruptor attacks. I'd presume as the Nova's heavier counterparts, capital torps would be too.

Wait, does the same apply to Starkillers/Sunslayers?

If so then *Field day*!

There was some talk about a legit "frigate" class a long time back (not like salvager) but I guess it got shelved.

An ammo-based cap weapon that had a large blast radius would be cool.

What exactly is a frigate?

As for the idea about cap torpedoes, it would be nice I think. Ballistic weapons are supposed to be the major causes of hull (not shield) damage in warfare, so it's kind of odd that we actually just use energy weapons.

frigate is between destroyer and GB (unless there's corvette in the middle, in which frigate is bigger than corvette)

and actually, a torp ship would be called just a torpedoe boat

It does not. My Starkillers get blown up in my face all the time.

As far as I know, BS Missiles are reclassified as BS Torpedoes for heavy slots in the next version. Maybe lighter missiles will appear later, but these current slow ones are now BS Torpedoes.

EDIT: Also, BS missiles are effective against other capships. They do as much damage as Supernovas, so a salvo of BS missiles against a Cruiser or Gunboat is pretty deadly.

They're called battleship missile launchers.

Seriously, compare nova torpedo stats to those of the cruiser missiles, there's barely any difference.

Yeah, but we don't have any massive ballistic cannons that are as effective as Mortars.

Problem with the cap missiles as they are currently is they eat way too much energy, they CAN actually be CD'd (I have done so numerous times) and can easily be dodged in a cruiser. Since apparently they're basically being made into what the OP suggests, I would love to have them lose energy costs (maybe at the cost of damage?) and instead take ammo and be long range, as the OP suggests.
