So my question is does Freelancer employ true anti-gravity technology.
The idea that Freelancer ships do not have landing gear and float on landing pads may point to this or may just be a electromagnetic technology.
Same with tractor beams.
Then we have people walking about on the deck of the Osirus.
We know that this ship does not spin so would indeed point to man perfecting antigravity technology.

Discuss.

Indeed there is a reliable repulsor technology another example is the DK artifact which levitates while being scanned on that station in the badlands ( the name eludes me) some stations utilize partial gravity only which might suggest that the tech is rather power hungry or the sations are deliberately left with partial gravity to ease cargo handling. Another example are the docking rings which seem to use some sort of field as a space elevator. However I do not believe that fighters have gravity inside due to several reasons. It would take precious energy. It would add an extra component to the acceleration forces thus making the combat preformance lower.

We're using the idea of a gravity generator for Continuum. Said gravity generator is placed at the mass center of a station or of a ship. The generator is an electromagnetic one, with an iron core on the inside. In short words it's like when you try to near-in two magnets with the same side near each other, they will create a dead mass center. However in Continuum lore, these generators are very power hungry and very expensive.

This is where conventional techniques make their way. There will be other ways of having gravity on a station, but I I'll leave it to you to discover it.

This idea for our lore came after that I played Dead Space 2.

Sorry for the obnoxiously large image.

@r3vange

It was Benford.

Continuum, does this not mean you will need to have a spherical station?
Might sound like a silly question.

If that's magnets hholding that up, what hell are those rings doing there?

Anti-gravity technology - Vexykin - 08-08-2011

:D

Yeah probably that's it

Nope. You just need to place the generator at the center of the mass.

So, if we have a square, we need to place the generator towards the inner center of the square. I'm not saying that you need spherical generators for spherical stations, and square generators for square stations.

Quote:( Mass ) Gravity / Influenced by Rotation + Speed = You keep your feet on the ground.

Magnets create the force field. While the sphere spins, the force is distributed towards the outside of the sphere.
Just think of an artificial planet core in smaller size, onboard a station or on a capital.

Freelancer does have ingame references to humans perfecting gravitational manipulation. Graviton shields, anyone?

I wouldn't say that humans perfected gravitational manipulation but yes they do use it on a (very) limited scale.
