TO: Doc Holliay of TAZ - shemkel - 09-12-2011 Doctor Holliday, Recent events on Freeport 2 made me - again - think a lot about what "zoner way" is and what can be done to avoid such situations in future or at least minimise the losses. I have no doubt that Zoners all over the sirius needs coordinated protection. But, as we've seen, any attempts to create a sirius-wide zoner "government" has failed. I'm not surprised about it really as zoners throughout all the sirius are so different and has so different needs... Take a look at Corona Battlegroup for example. I was and still am wondering if we can call ourselves zoners. There is no real definition of zoner or "zoner way". Maybe a zoner is someone that doesn't want to live under "protection" of any government? Or maybe it's someone that lives in some particular part of space? There is no definition and thus, in my oppinion, any attempt to form an all-zoner government will fail. I have found only one thing in common for all the zoners and zoner organisations I know - they hate being forced to anything. Coming to those conclusions, I started to think about needs of those people. The primary need of all people is safety. Safety from war, from violence and starvation but also from political pressure, corporate exploitation and such. Some of those needs can be easily provided by sending humanitarian aid - just as you do. Others - by giving a shelter or performing patrols to secure civilians from criminal activity. The first problem is that there is no coordination when anything bad happens. The other problem is that we only act when some large-scale tragedies happens. Noone is interested in helping people trying to get through their own, personal tragedies of being robbed, threatened or even slaved. The solution to this problem, that I was thinking about, would be to form a kind of alliance between all those who wants to participate. An alliance with no real political power - so there would be no fight for domination. An alliance consisting of members that would work together only to coordinate their efforts in fulfilling some simple goals: - performing security patrols near allied bases or in allied systems. - performing defence missions near endangered or threatened bases. - performing humanitarian aid, emergency repair and similar help to anyone in need. - coordinating supply deliveries and similar whenever it's needed - performing a "recruitment" missions in house space to allow anyone seeking freedom to join whatever zoner organisation he likes or to start on his own. I have been thinking about this idea for quite a long time and I like to call it United Worlds, As I know that you have extensive experience in diplomacy, I'd like to know your oppinion about this. How do you think - would it work? And would TAZ be interested in participating in such project? I will do my best to answer them. Let's make one thing clear. Any form of centralized Zoner government will most likely never happen again. Zoners are different and it's something we take much pride in. Unlike the many "criminal" groups around Sirius, we Zoners peacefully left house space and set up shop where they wouldn't or couldn't go. We didn't take arms against the houses unlike some of those fore mentioned groups. Still, we get treated the same by some of those houses. Apparently they take exception to someone they don't like coming aboard one of our Freeports, getting a plate of food, taking a pee and leaving to continue their business. Quote:- performing security patrols near allied bases or in allied systems.I think you will find that each Freeport looks after it's own with few security ships, some even sharing patrol routes to maintain safety in between stations. You will see an example of that with FP6 ships running up as far as Freeport 10. Quote:- performing defence missions near endangered or threatened bases.Part of a security patrol is just this. It's not uncommon for an escape pod or two to get picked up along the way. Quote:- performing humanitarian aid, emergency repair and similar help to anyone in need. This, my friend, is the primary purpose of a Freeport. A meal, a patch on your ship's hull, a bed if needed and a band aid if you need it. Again, Houses don't always see it this way. They rather see it as harboring the enemy. Little do they know is that if they were in need, they too would get help. Quote:- coordinating supply deliveries and similar whenever it's neededAnother purpose of a Freeport as they are along trade lanes and such. You will see a lot of this going on. Talk to any one of the Administrators there. Quote:- performing a "recruitment" missions in house space to allow anyone seeking freedom to join whatever zoner organisation he likes or to start on his own.You will find that most of the Freeports are independent entities. They don't openly recruit nor will they. They support all Zoners, independent and faction minded although I'm sure in all Freeports you'll see a poster for OSI or whatever on the bulletin board. Back to a centralized Zoner body. We've tried twice. Twice it failed. I have no desire to try it again. Dr. John Henry Holliday TAZ Administrator TO: Doc Holliay of TAZ - shemkel - 09-22-2011 Doctor Holliday, You must have missed one or two lines from my transmission... Quote:There is no definition and thus, in my oppinion, any attempt to form an all-zoner government will fail. Quote:An alliance with no real political power - so there would be no fight for domination. Well, you seem so confident in Freeports' security assured by theirs security ships? What happened to Freeport 2 security two or three weeks ago? I had to send our repairships there to help repairing station after attack. How did it happen? You say that there are patrols around and between Freeports... How come there are so many pirated civilians adn zoners? You say that we get threatened by some houses. I'm not really surprised as anywhere I go there are people using zoner weapons against other people. Who's going to keep those weapons away from those that didn't get any permission or license to use it? I never wanted to form any kind of government. There's no need for that. Every Freeport is like a small "country". What zoners need in my opinion is coordination. If everyone would do only a little thing for common zoner wealth, for greater good, zoners as a whole would get stronger and... a bit more happy. I heard that TAZ is willing to stand ground if Gallia invades Baffin. Do you think that any Freeport administrator would risk sending his own pilots to help you? I don't think so. Freeport administrator should take care about his people in the first place. Helping others can only cause trouble to his Freeport. I hoped you - as a person known for your diplomatic skills and empathy - would be interested in forming some kind of organised cooperation and help. But as I already said, if this is going to work, it must be based on offering things not demanding. What I'd like to offer to you is: - Corona Battlegroup's Combat Division performing patrols Kansas->Magellan->Cortez->Coronado->Baffin - The same division helping any zoners in need of defence in those systems - Help in regaining control of zoner weapons used without license or against zoners - Our Supply and Engineering Division helping in transport of critical supplies (when demanded) and performing base repairs (whenever needed) - Our Science Division sharing any data that would help zoners as a whole in getting stronger and safer. There are two things that I'd like to ask in return: - Right to move around Baffin and dock on Shasta for all of our ships (Including some larger vessels like zoner made capships and ex-LN carrier we use as our base of operations) - Your diplomatic help in spreading this idea of mine. I do not ask you to convince people that it's good idea. Just - if anyone's in need of help we can provide, let him know we're someone that will help. And let them choose.
