ok so disco is full of large rocks very large rocks we see npc's mining them so why cant we. we have huge ships but still go round shooting little rocks with low yeilds, why not go for the big ones.

so my idea is you fly to a area were a certain ore is mined for example you go to a feild were you mine niobium you see and a big juicy rock you point your ship at the rock it scan it says its compatable at this point you dock with the rock. your ship lands on it and sucks it self down to the rock. and small screen then come up like a bulleye you have to keep you drill bit in the center of the bulls eye why it all ways trying to no be there the closer to the center you keep it the higher yeild you get.

idea from ipad space game:D

I think it's trying to communicate...

that would mean that nearly all of the bigger rocks in the mining fields will need to be replaced with a station object. Or in an alternative you switch only a few and then people will kill each other for it.
You must remember that Discovery has limitation - We don't have the source code.

It's not about 'limitations in here', Pancakes. There are of course object limitations for systems, on how much stuff you can throw in.

The real issue here is that this idea of his is just an open-eyes dream.

Like in galaxy on fire 2.

BUT. 'docking' on rocks would screw miner piracy.

Right. So we see stationary NPCs drilling the large rocks in some asteroid fields. Why not 'hire' them?

For a fee, all of the NPC miner's rocks will be transferred directly to your cargo hold for a limited amount of time, after which you will have to pay a fee again to keep it coming. These NPC ships can be destroyed so it encouraged team work to secure and defend it. You'll also need large transports to deposit the mined ore. The profits can be shared after the ore is sold. Anyone can hire a mining ship, but those with the right ID/IFF combinations would obviously benefit more.

Maybe a /mine function? That converts your ship with about 30 secs of setup time into a stationary mining object with continuous income at around 5x-10x faster than current mining rates... BUT! You have no guns and no Shields during this time. And taking your ship out of this is 30 secs as well. This would be something that we could use with the Gas mining as well and stuff. It would encourage more escorts for miners. I mean, the rewards are greater but the risks are much greater as well. Perhaps also but in a couple of balancing things as well like if you get dropped more than 1 bar of health then your ship auto-flyingmodes.

Of course the numbers are just to give the idea some basis but I think that that would make it easier.
