Suggestion #283 / Shields - (ツ) - 10-16-2011 Long time ago i noticed that the elite npcs (for instance battleship fighter escort) have 14k elite shields. I wonder why players can't buy or at least loot them. Wouldn't it be nice to have a certain variety in VHF shields? All we have atm for VHF is the 11k in different 3 flavors. Even Transports can choose between 3 Types. They have to decide which shield to install, depending on which turrets they're using. Adding the 14k with a higher power drain and slower reload: Yay or Nay? Vote, discuss Suggestion #283 / Shields - jxie93 - 10-16-2011 All shields, except from transports', have negligible drain. Transport shields are special cases in terms of shield balancing. Shield drain was applied to transports because the dev team thought it'd be realistic to make them paper armoured cash cows with no means of defending themselves. If you were able to buy a 14000 VHF shield, then everyone will just use that instead. I don't mind a little diversity in shields but this would just make VHFs even more overpowered and further increase the gap between VHFs and HFs. So unless you want to apply freighter level shield diversity in terms of drain, regeneration and capacity to balance every single class - I suggest you leave the current VHF shields alone. Suggestion #283 / Shields - Lennox - 10-17-2011 Hmm....no. Why buffing an already overpowered shipline? I don't see the reason why something like this should be done. Like mentioned would every VHF pilot use these better shields instead of the older ones and would make them even more OP. An increasing of shield capacity would mean that VHF's can eat much more fire that would increase the duration of the fights and decrease the chance of other, non-VHF's to make it against them. Your concerns about balancing problems are justified as one of the main advantages of the discovery mod is adding interesting features without overpowering ships, guns and stuff... However my suggestion never was meant to be a buff for the VHF. In order to keep stability and to prevent players from just buying the 14k shield, it would be necessary to adjust it's stats to have assets and drawbacks compared to the 11k shield. -Drop the regen rate. -Longer downtime. -Higher energy drain.
