The Libertonian Revolutionary Militia

"When democracy fails, force prevails."

-Phoenix Hale, Leader of the Militia

Chapter 1: The Exodus

As Liberty turned to capitalism, more and more citizens were losing their jobs. The government could care less about the homeless of the inhabitants on their planets. The number of corporations of Liberty turned to cheap labor; paying the workers minuscule amounts of credits a day for what they do. Everything was based around money, and nothing more.

As a result of this, the percentage that were in poverty or who had been effected by Liberty's greed began to rally and protest, forming the RIF (Reduction In Force) Campaign. Beginning on Planet Los Angeles, they relayed their thoughts in hopes of spreading the message to the people and the government. As the movement spread from city to city, more and more people shared the same thoughts and joined them in their campaign.

It was successful in terms of recruiting, but the government didn't appreciate the movement. To end this, the government sent out a ground-support team that specialized in operating in secrecy to abruptly halt the RIF's progression. On a rainy night in Angeles, as the RIF were finalizing their protest for the day, the special ops team moved in and swiftly executed majority of the 600 person crowd, leaving only a handful to escape and seek refuge in an abandoned warehouse.

Inside the warehouse, majority of the survivors panicked. Luckily, one was able to keep the group in order.

His name was Phoenix Hale. He wasn't very different from the others; he lost his job, forced to live on the streets, and was one of the first to join the RIF movement. What made him different from the others was his imminent power to take control of a large amount of people. As the crowd composed itself, Hale devised a plan to keep out of harm's way.

Because it was too soon to leave the vicinity due to the dense patrols going on about the area, the survivors' safest bet was to stay in the warehouse and under the radar until it was safe. It was going to be a long time until salvation came unexpectedly.

The warehouse was a grand building. A 360 degree look was not enough to witness half of the architecture's splendor. It was hard to believe anyone had abandoned this place. A few of the members decided to scout around the place looking for anything they could find. Hours were spent looking for anything of worth, but nothing of use was found. No weapons, no food, no tools, nothing.

One man, Andreas Echo, didn't give up. He felt a strange sixth sense that something, something was there, waiting for them. He kept searching, but didn't find anything, until he saw a series of loose floor panels. As he progressed to inspect them, a sudden rumble dispersed within the floor and the ground beneath him began to fall apart. Descending at the speed that the gravity of Angeles took him, he fell roughly five floors deep. Upon his descent, he physically encountered unknown metallic objects before landing on a solid metal rail, just above his waste.

After the impact, his body went into a state of shock; he couldn't move or speak. His eyes wandering, he saw that the unknown metallic objects that he ran into was the deteriorating structure of a ship, and that he himself had stumbled upon a hangar. It was a short time after the epiphany that his eyes became heavy as he heard the distant cries of his name, as he slipped into darkness.

Meanwhile, Phoenix was desperately trying to find Echo after hearing the disgruntled noise beneath him. After a quick search, he found the impetuous hole in the ground. Seeing Echo's motionless and dislocated body on the ground five stories beneath him, he called the others to scavenge a rope around the vast warehouse. Finally, after 20 minutes of scavenging the grounds, a fellow member of the movement had found useful material for descent upon the floors. After closer inspection by Phoenix, they found it to be sturdy and well-made rope.

A few members including Hale reached the bottom into the unknown void, where the body of Andreas Echo lay motionless. They inspected the body for any signs of life. Miraculously, a faint pulse was felt on Echo's neck, and the crew exclaimed that he was still alive. As the rest of the crew were recovering their comrade's body, Hale noticed a faint glimmer in the distance. Upon closer inspection, he saw that it gave off a bronze reflection. Immediately, he ordered the others to recover a light source. Much to his may, his followers stumbled upon a switch, and quickly activated it. After activation, column after column of fluorescent light appeared. Directly in front of Hale was an Eagle, in it's majesty.

But this one magnificent ordeal was not all that appeared. Rows of aligned ships covered the hangar's floor, which seemed like miles. The crew was left speechless. Hale was left wide-eyed, as the only thing he could spurt was "Tell the others."

As the rest of the RIF descended into the hangar, cries of bewilderment echoed throughout the vast space. Hale began to drift off and inspect the grandeur. After a while, he saw something quite peculiar. Upon approach, he discovered a keypad with a note attached to it, displaying the numbers "785261". He then submitted the numbers, and a boisterous noise rebounded throughout the hangar. As everyone protected their eardrums, Hale noticed that a gigantic ship was slowly starting to uncover itself from its hidden state.

After the onslaught of booming vibrations seized, the crowd started to proceed toward Hale's location. As they stopped to admire the majesty of this architecture, Hale's mind rushed.

In the heat of the moment, Hale felt a sense of inspiration. He felt as if it was destiny that had brought him and the others here. He knew that the members he lost were not in vain. He knew what had to be done.

"Men. Soldiers. Fellow members of our movement. We stand here before this splendor today after what we thought to have been the fatal blow to destroy us and what we stand for. But instead we have been given an opportunity. So as we rest our heads and think of those we lost, think of the things we have gained, whether it be these colossal weapons of glory, or the new members to join our fight. Men. We will strive, and we will prevail. Ultimately, we will be victorious, no matter how much the bloodshed and sacrifice. We will not go silent into that night, nor will we stand for the dying of the light.

Those who died for our cause will not be let down. This is our destiny. Echo has not fallen into a deep sleep for no reason. Have we not stumbled upon this sanctum for no reason?

We will make use of this. Something of major significance will not be ignored.

My men. Let me be your leader. We must ban together. Unite with me, let me lead you into the new direction that Reduction In Force is taking. We are the true Revolution, and together we will purge the Libertonian government of all its impurities! As democracy was not enough, force will be! We shall inhibit the true democracy that not only this Militia deserves, but anything that breathes deserves. We will fight the fight that our offspring's offspring will dream to be a part of, a dream to fight for our cause. We will end Liberty's decay permanently! We will restore peace and sanctity to this land, and give a reason to live in it!

I refuse to let you fail, and I shall never abandon you, nor will I purposely lead you to your blind death. I would rather take my own life than to let you suffer in vain! Are you with me brethren?!"

It was more than a buzz that came from the vocal chords of the members. A 'roar' can never be close to the persistent sound that exited through the mouths of the people. The inspirational speech that Hale had more than inspired the souls and hearts of the members. He had given them meaning, a reason to live, to fight, for Liberty.

"Brothers, we are the force that will prevail. We are the holy hand that will smack down the faithless. God has given us the materials, the advantage, and the willingness to stand for what we believe in.

Brothers, we are the Revolution. We stand to be the Revolutionary Militia of Liberty!"

Chapter 2: An Abrupt Awakening

It's been two months into the building and construction of the RML, and the crewmates have been hard at work repairing and testing the operation of the ships. It was in those couple of months that Echo began to show stronger signs of life and was closer to his destination of awakening.

Finally, as the crew were indulged in their own work of repairs, Echo slowly arose from his coma, and panicked, screaming his lungs out. Hale immediately rushed to his comrade to witness his condition upon awakening.

"What the hell's going on?! What happened?!?"

"My brother, you've woken from a two month sleep after your rushed descent into the metallic caverns."

"What are you talking about, Phoenix?"

"Andreas, upon your accidental five floor descent, you fell and were sent into a comatose state, in which you have been asleep for two months. Soon after recovering your body, it was discovered that the void you fell into was a hangar full of various ships. You've been asleep for two months now."

Hale began to get into detail of what had happened, and the progression that him and the crew have taken with the movement during Andreas's two-month inactivity.

"So, I found something of use... Please, I want to help, what are they doing right now?"

"At the moment, our men are hard at work attempting to put these ships into operating condition."

"I must assist! What are we waiting for?"

As Andreas said this, he tried to rush up to find the others, but no matter what he tried, he couldn't successfully get up.

"Phoenix, what's happening? I can't feel my legs or move them!"

"Andreas, when you fell, it appeared that you had struck a metal railing before hitting the ground."

"No! It can't be!"

Andreas was persistent and yet attempted to move his legs.

"This isn't happening..."

"I'm sorry, Andreas."

"Please Phoenix.... don't let this hinder me, don't let me hinder our movement!"

"I'm sorry Brother, but I don't know much of what you can do."

"If I cannot use my physical being, let use my mental being. I will not sleep or rest for an instant until I know I have done good for us. Please, let me be your eyes, ears. I shall be the one that will do the research and study whether it be on friend or foe. I beg of you Phoenix, do not let me stay on the sidelines to witness what happens with you. I do not wish to live knowing that I am useless in this war."

Although Andreas was incapacitated and could not support in the firing lines, he would be able to be based and support the RML with valuable information and tactics, and would save the team from apparent death in tough situations.

Chapter 3: Departure

After many months of labor and hiding in secrecy, the Militia was ready to depart from the hangar.

Luckily, a scout by the name of Jonathon Barber was able to leave the warehouse, gather information on Liberty space, and come back in one piece. The data was transferred to one of the databases on the ship in which Echo controlled, and from there he relayed the data to each and every one of the ships in the hangar.

Everything was set and ready to go; from departure to arrival at Milford Base, Pennsylvania.

Luckily, it was empty around Angeles, it seemed that the patrols were more worried about an apparent pirate group near the New York gate. They hastily headed to the Penn Hole, and entered the system.

By fortune, it was still dead. No patrols of any kind were in the vicinity, and the Militia was free to proceed.

Upon cruise roughly 30 kilos away from Milford, they stumbled upon a light Police patrol of six, in which they were stopped to be scanned and observed. They asked them the status their objectives and destination. The Militia knew that if they told them the truth, they would surely be sent to Sugarland to await prosecution. And there weren't many options to lie about. Before they could even give an answer, however, the Police threatened the group to eject all pilots, as they were to be sent for investigation and Sugarland due to warrants on the ships, as the Militia found out that they were stolen spacecraft. The Militia attempted to flee from the Police, but the Disruptors were just too much for their engines, and a firefight erupted in the field.

After ten minutes of defense, all but one Police vessel was blown up, and the survivor fled from the scene. Miraculously the Militia was left unharmed, and quickly continued to Milford, with a strong will, and leaving only a few scraps of their ships behind.

About ten kilos away from Milford, yet another Police patrol stopped them suddenly and attacked without warning. The only problem was that this patrols was heavily armed and prepared to eliminate the wanted vessels. and in bigger numbers. It was ten police versus twenty-eight refugees, and it seemed that the Militia was out gunned and faced apparent death.

Suddenly, out of the open, a large Xeno patrol approached the two groups about to proceed guns blazing, and fired upon the Police patrol.

Nothing but projectiles of black and red and blue light were seen between each ship. The Police were baffled, and attempted to flee, but the Xenos had the upper hand and did not let a single one of them leave.

After the imminent firefight, the Xenos asked the refugees who they are, and why they are heading to Milford in such big numbers. Without hesitance, Hale explained who they are, and where they came from. The Xenos saw this as an opportunity for an alliance, as they shared much of the same views.
