Bot/Batt Leaching - Warbird - 03-16-2008

Was fighting an [RM] today in Frankfurt. All was going well, he was down to about 5 bots, and I had all 66 of my batts and bots left. I've seen this happen with many other people, but it really just pushed me over the edge today. I know most of us think it's pretty lame to divert your fire from the person you're engaging just so you can kill an NPC and steal their bots/batts. And, in RP, that makes good sense. However, It kind of kills gameplay. There's a reason our ships have bot/batt limits, and that's so it doesn't take a century to finish a firefight.

That being said, how do you guys feel? Further, if this was a rule, would it be difficult to enforce?

I voted no.

If you are surrounded by enemies; npcs and players, you should be able to shoot at either.

Shooting at your own npcs however... That is already sanctionable I believe.

Unsure on this one.

Mainly, because bombers make their main source of bot/batt leaching from other players, to fill up their cavernous regeneration holds. It is hard to differentiate this and just killing NPCs from each other quickly enough to hit "prnt scrn".

And I imagine it is very very hard to enforce, but I could be wrong.

Bot/Batt Leaching - Warbird - 03-16-2008

I'll definitely agree that it'd be difficult to PrtScr something, tried today and it failed pretty miserably.

As for blasting your own NPCs, I'm pretty sure that is definitely sanctionable. I'm just talking about going out of your way to blast the surrounding enemy NPCs.

fighter combat can last for a long long time regardless.

the odd thing about this is, if you are in an area with many hostile NPCs, it can be an advantage...

I still voted no. my suggestion to those who hate long drawn out fighter combat: get missiles, torpedos, and mines.

target the weapons and blow the enemies guns off, it wont matter how many bots and bats they have, you cant repair your weapons in space.

Bot/Batt Leaching - pchwang - 03-16-2008

I voted no.

The problem with PvP right now is that people too often see the end of a fight as the destruction of their opponent's vessel.

This is actually quite illogical, and oorp. Instead of prolonging the fight, just retreat, and admit defeat.

Dirty tactic:P

I can't really decide on this. It makes sense to blast away npc's if they're engaging you and doing damage, the side effect is you get bots/batts, however it can backfire really badly if you are a bit slow on tractoring them in and your enemy does it first.

I do agree, npc farming is annoying but a rule would be totaly un enforcable. I think we just have to rely on good old fashioned honour here folks.

Bot/Batt Leaching - Othman - 03-16-2008

Way too hard to enforce that would be.

Bot/Batt Leaching - Dieter Schprokets - 03-16-2008

Voted Yes

Make it a rule.

Can it be enforced? No,not easily.

But might prevent it happening, even a bit.

NPC farming seriously unbalances a fight when even a few people in a battle do it.

Bot/Batt Leaching - pchwang - 03-16-2008

Guys...I think that we are being illogical here. If they shoot NPCs to get more bots/batts, you can too.

This is really all part of combat. Unfortunately, we do have bots/batts here, so there really is no way we can exclude them. Finding ways to get them is quite RP indeed.

What is being proposed here is getting closer to a rule for the sake of PvP only.

Remember, death does not always mean victory/loss. You can retreat as well.
