From: Kei Marwick, Renzu Corporation To: KNF Lane Authority Re: Renzu Demonstrative Combat Testing and Analysis Konichiwa, Officers.
I am Kei Marwick, captain of the Renzu research vessel, Renzu|Yomi. I am a member of the Renzu Board of Directors and I speak for the Renzu Corporation in this matter. Renzu Corporation would like permission to perform some demonstrative testing in New Tokyo. These tests should include, but not be limited to, Renzu ship flight capabilities, weapons systems analysis, frame stress tests, and various software and coms tests. Normally, these tests would not require permission or even the notice of Kusari authorities. However, we would like to perform our testing in a different, and one might say novel, manner. We would like to stage one or two "mock" combats in and around one of New Tokyo's Jump Lanes. There are several reasons for this type of active testing, as I shall explain. First, without actual combat testing and analysis we have no idea what hidden flaws our ship lines may have. It is our job to make sure that every ship is designed and built in such a way as to provide a stable, capable, and safe vehicle for combat and civillian purposes. Here at Renzu we take that job very seriously. Second, it shows the Kusari public that their government and Renzu Corporation are willing to go to great lengths to ensure thier safety. These kinds of active and public safety measures help to encourage economic fluidity even in these dangerous times. Third, and finally, it is Renzu's belief that such public combat tests and demonstrations will help raise the publics sagging spirits and strengthen thier faith in Kusari and Kusari made products. Let us show the world the superiority of Kusari design and skill and the world will show Kusari respect and accomadation. To perform these tests we need either an officer to drop one of the lanes for a brief moment or the permission to do so ourselves. This should be of no greater matter than deactivating the gate for maintanance and will take far less time, only a handful of moments. Once our convoy is "ambushed" we will proceed with the actual combat testing. For this we would like an officer or the authority to keep the public at a safe distance as we will be using live fire. These tests would be most worthless without the live fire but we in no way want to endanger lives. If we should be granted permission we would, of course, issue a press release inviting the public to watch and warning them of the safety precautions. Please contact me care of Roppongi Base, New Tokyo with any questions, comments, and concerns that you might have. Renzu Corporation looks forward to working with you, gentlemen and ladies, to ensure a better, safer, and more profitable tomorrow. Yours Sincerely, Kei Marwick, Field Research Analyst. Renzu Corporation

Unfortunately we have to deny your request. We do not see any reason to allow you to make such test in main Kusari system. We do not see any reason to make combat test near trade lane, we believe you can do that in any other place. Unfortunatelly Renzu corporation do not own any government contract and do not provide Navy with it's ships, those test can't prove anything for kusari people, because they are defended by ships made by Samura and Kishiro. And the last one, we think it's job of Renzu corporation, not Kusari government, to show that ships made by them are good or even better than other, our government and peoples already know that Kusari ships are superior to others. You may rethink your proposal and change some details and return later, if we will find that propsal beneficial for Kusari, we will help you, in other case you are on your own. Sayonara. From: Kei Marwick, Renzu Corporation To: Chujo Kagakagari Takaya, KNF Re: Renzu Demonstrative Combat Testing and Analysis Konichiwa,
I'm afraid I do not understand much of your response to our query. It is a simple request, involving little effort from the KNF, and costs Kusari nothing. In return we offer Kusari a spectacle, an event to bolster failing spirits in this time of war. And, with respect, the people do not know a thing simply because a government official declares they do. All the people of Kusari see are our soldiers pouring out and our wounded, maimed, and dead pouring back in. Renzu, unlike Samura and Kishiro, is ready and willing to show the people more. Where they remain quiet and content to produce aging ship lines from previous wars, Renzu is producing new and improved models. But production of new ships isn't enough for us. We want the people of Kusari to know that Renzu and the Government of Kusari are not content to let our soldiers die in dated ships. We want them to see that, between us, we are doing our utmost to ensure the safety and combat superiority of Kusari soldiers. You of the millitary who practice the art of honorable battle know that this is true, but the farmers and laborers, they are a simple people, them we must show. You are right in saying that we do not hold any government contracts. However, that is no bar to our patriotism or from millitary pilots and fleets utilising our ships. We will gladly provide the KNF all the small craft it is willing to purchase. If you so desire, we are willing to have the KNF pilot our convoy's defensive ships. I would even make it a point to ask the board to reimburse the KNF part of the purchasing price for the two or three craft needed in the test. I am also confused as to why the KNF would disallow our tests near a lane? Our snub craft do not have enough firepower to damage the lane with stray fire and we do not have to test on a lane near a base or planet. A lonely stretch of lane thousands of kilometers from any civillian or government facility would be perfect for our purposes. There is no way that any stray fire could endanger the facilities or thier traffic at such distances. If it is the location, New Tokyo, then we are willing to change it. Any stretch of lane within Kusari space is acceptable, really. We only chose New Tokyo because we were hoping that the people who gather to observe the tests, from a safe distance of course, would then spend thier credits in New Tokyo. Renzu is looking forward to working with you further in this regard and any input about how the tests would be more agreeable in the eyes of the KNF would be appreciated. Yours Sincerely, Kei Marwick, Field Research Analyst, Member of the Board of Directors. Renzu Corporation

You do not understand? Well, let me explain. We do not need your spectacle. It's your job to test your ships and then provide results to public, not ours. Our two main concerns about it, that you wanted your so called 'spectacle' in main Kusari system and not far from trade lane. You may tell, that your gun fire won't damage trade lane, that is not the point, we simply do not understand why you want it near trade lane, and how any other place can't fit your needs. I see you are research analyst, no wonder that you don't know how to keep neutrality in conversations. Right now you insulted two greatest keiretsu of Kusari, with their so called 'dated, aging' ships. What even more, you insulted us, Naval forces who are using that ships and whole Kusari, because with that 'aging' ships we protect our space and doing our job really well. I'm sure if you will tell that to our pilots, who are using that ships everyday, without a doubt they will slice you with katana. Yet you didn't saw new beast of Kishiro and Samura, and this is not some new improved fighter model*laughs*. You will apologies for you rudeness and will watch your words, if you want to continue our conversation. The time when we will be in need of your snub craft is still very far away, and I doubt that it will occur at all. On the other hand we might be interested in your new liner, for recreation and relaxing of KNF personnel. As for our input, we may allow you to make that test in 15klicks from planet Kyushu, in open space. If needed 2 Naval Force officers will be present there. Sayonara.
