Discovery 4.86 - FAQ - Cannon - 12-31-2011

Repninja

Repninja remains essentially unchanged from 4.85

Server enforced ship purchase restrictions

All server enforced ship purchase restrictions have been removed. The rules have not (yet) been updated to reflect this.

Technology compatibility

Information coming soon and consider the current setup a trial.

IDs

Most IDs have been updated. There are certainly mistakes in the update and these will be corrected.

Most offical player factions will be granted their own IDs but the IDs must fit into one of several templates. Some small variation is permitted from the templates.

Cruise Speeds

Different ships have different cruise speeds. Okay?

Player Bases

Are broken at the moment.

Jump Drives and Hyperspace Survey Modules

The commands to operate the jumpdrive and survey module are:
/jump
/setcoords
/survey
/charge
You need a survey module and fuel to create a hyperspace coordinate. With a hyperspace coordinate, ships can jump directly to a known location in realspace. Ships can jump without coordinates but they have no control over their destination.

To operate the survey module, stop the ship and type /survey. It takes several minutes to complete a survey and the ship must remain stopped during this time. Due to variations in the hyperspace quantum field, hyperspace coordinates remain accurate for a limited time. More advanced survey modules can increase the amount of time the coordinates are usable.

If you have a jump drive and sufficient fuel then you may enter the coordinate using the /setcoords command.

You may then charge the jumpdrive with the /charge command. You need sufficient fuel to do this. Once the jumpdrive is charged, jump by typing the /jump command.

Jumpdrives and Hyperspace Survey Modules require big ships and fuel to operate.

Cloaking

To cloak a ship, type /cloak. To uncloak type /cloak again. Cloaking devices mount in the counter measures slot and require fuel to operate.

Docking Modules

Small player ships may dock with any ship that is carrying docking modules. Only one ship may be carried in a docking module and the standard module supports ships that have holds of 275 units or smaller.

To dock with another ship, the player must target the docking module carrier and either type /dock or press F3. The docking module carrier will be notified of the docking request and must then authorize the request by targeting the requesting ship and typing /allowdock.

A docking module carrier may see which ships are docked by typing stdocked and may jettison docked ships into space by typing /jettisonship <shipname>.

Bugs

The mod is NOT bug free. There are many known bugs. We have a list. A thread will appear soon where you can post your bugs.

We expect to make another update within a week or so.

Release Date
Hey, it was released on the 30th in GMT-10. So there.
