Zoner ID - Lunaphase - 01-01-2012

Ok, the id was simplified. This is very good. However, Gallic lawfuls can easily be considered their enemies due to past actions. (bombardment of several freeports, destruction of ships without reason, etc.)

I would like to know the logic behind removing the line "Can engage those diplomatically hostile" From the ID, due to the fact its entirely within roleplay for zoners to actively engage those known to be hostile to them in order to defend their freeports and ships.

Im going to assume if my juggy engages a GRN valor or such it would be considered legitimate due to their hostile standing with most zoners, and the fact that a GRN ship would very likely be perfectly willing to return the favor.

While the new id is nice, it does leave a rather glaring omission that looks to be merely an oversight in this matter. They are no longer a faction with no enemies, as the GRN has proven, and thus should be allowed to engage those who engage THEM on sight for the most part.

My impression is that Zoners are supposed to be defensive, not aggressive. If they start actively attacking people, even factions which have shown hostility towards them in the past, then their supposedly peaceful demeanor starts falling to the wayside.

But the thing is, the current id, if we went purely by the wording, means zoners cant even defend their own stations and ships. This makes no damn sense, plus the very existence of the zoner larger ships is to defend their way of life. While im not talking about hauling off into gallia for raids, i merely meant as a defensive measure, as currently the ID is rather lacking in depth for the zoners activities.

defensive can also be an offensive stance ( as major countries nowadays show )

a problem with a line "can engage those diplomatically hostile" is that - in the past ... the zoner factions were incapable of defining who is hostile.

corsairs were/are only unfriendly to one third of the zoners
gallia is basicly only unfriendly to one third or maybe 2 thirds

this list can go on.

personally - i don t like it much - imo ... especially zoner factions ought to have their own IDs to gain their own diplomatic stances - and "the Zoners" shouldn t be allowed to have "an official playerfaction"

True. But a faction being unable to defend itself from those who shoot them on sight unless they get shot first is a little assinine, specially how they cannot id wise even come to the defence of their own allies.

No matter what ID states you can always defend if fired on. Any ship, any class, any faction. That is in the rules. So if GRN pops by and fires on you? then your able to fire back.

i don t think its based on logic, lunaphase .... it is based on fear

fear of zoners attacking, zoners - in the mind of many of that community - are rather meant to be like sheep. - if you kill them, they cower, if you harrass them, they flee.

ppl don t like to think of sheep that learn to defend their interest by .... exterminating those who harrass them activly - that is something that many many players would be very afraid of.

Definitely should have a line about defending other Zoners, Zoner NPCs, and attacking anyone who's attacking people near a Freeport.
