Before the wonderful /droprep command was introduced, there was a discussion before, in which way such a command could/would become abused.

The reason it cost a bit, was because of making it not too easy to get the guard reputation, which is obsolet currently.

So why not lower the price for the /droprep command to zero credits, as the reason is no longer in action.

?

Guard IDs are obsolete, guard reps are not.

Guard reps are still required to buy things from many stations in guard systems.

If i remember correctly, the costs were added because of the too-easy-to-get-guard-IFF. The Guard IDs went off. As the IFF may be obsolete too (is it really? Can you still get an Guard-IFF? I am not sure, to be honest...), i see really no reason which would cause such costs.

Question is still in action:

Is it still necessary, that it cost a bit?

If it would be for free, would that cause any problems? And if so, which possible problems?

Oh, it is not because i am a greedy capitalist swine, it is only because i care for the newbies i meet with my angel - seriously, why?

A reduction in price to 100k would be nice, if not made available for free. Just so that the server isn't swamped with /droprep commands being used willy-nilly.

Why would anyone want to do that?

Fairly certain you're wrong and that guard system bases have been changed to use the regular IFF, not the guard IFF.

They've never been too easy. Quite the contrary, they were too hard to get, and took too much time away from actually playing the game for repping.

For instance, the KNF Guard IFF would literally need nearly 100 missions to get to full.

Getting the Zoner IFF was a stupidly annoying mess that'd be more chance than anything.

/droprep never has nor never will need to cost money.

Never seen any real need for droprep to cost. Namechange maybe, I can imagine it costing to re-register yr ship to avoid the law.

So make droprep dirt cheap,BUT make it usable 1 time per week like namechange. Problem solved.
Also still need guard rep full green in pueto rico for junkers to buy GB turrets/class 9 guns. Not sure about other systems/guards.

Problem created, not solved.

Within the last couple months, I had to use /droprep repeatedly to change to the reputation I wanted on two characters. Bubba.Fett had a Liberty Navy IFF and I wanted a Gateway IFF which was usually in the third slot from the bottom, since I couldn't get it further down the list. The factions I got using /droprep: LSF, LPI, BPA, ALG, BowEx (that I almost kept out of frustration, since it was close to what I wanted), BMM and finally Gateway. I wasted $2,450,000 on seven droprep commands.

If you think that was bad, it got worse when I fixed my reputation on Bubba.Holler: IC to LN to BAF to BPA to BowEx to Gateway to Cryer to DSE to Republican Shipping to Universal Shipping to IMG. That's 10 droprep commands used while IMG was sitting in slot #2 the entire time. I literally had to droprep on every faction that was maxed green, as it kept randomly giving me everything but what was in the #2 slot. I wasted $3.5 million on that nonsense just to be able to switch to the faction I wanted. That would've taken me 10 weeks if your idea had been implemented. Of course, it would be nice if the droprep command actually worked the way it was supposed to and gave me the faction in the #2 slot, but that only happened once when Bubba.Fett got LSF.
