Roleplay time - aldjabad - 01-13-2012 Situation: I am miner. When I was digging the ore (Humboldt), i was approached by a Junker. He demanded my cargo. I have not had time to finish the text of my reply. I was destroyed in 3 seconds. My answers are usualy quickly, but 1-2 seconds is too little time. What time limit we have to answer the roleplay questions? Roleplay time - Echo 7-7 - 01-13-2012 There is no fixed time. The Admins usually frown upon those who provide not enough time to reply to piracy demands. Roleplay time - Syrus - 01-13-2012 They must give you some time to respond. I saw a lot of those "Drop all cargo"-guys around lately. We still need a law against unreasonable demands. One pirate asked me for all my cargo even though he couldn't carry half of it... That is just ridiculous and absolutly beyond any point of fairness. Roleplay time - Not Espi - 01-13-2012 if you think that server rules were broken ( NOT that you were being wronged - those are two different things ), file a rule violation report. Nothing is wrong with that, the point isn't to take down the transport of the enemy, but to cut his supply lines. Also you can never know how fast his buddy in a transport will arrive. There are even skype-chanels to ask junkers and smugglers to come for it and split the profit. On topic: Yeah, it's weak. Timestamp the demands and the destruction message and submit a report, who knows. I don't think it justifies such demand. Especially not when keeping fairness in mind. Guess I need to make me a fat pirate bomber if that is ok rule-wise... EDIT: I mean, I can understand a Corsair asking an OC to drop all freight, or Gaian asking Planetform to drop the freight...etc. But a random pirate against a rather random trader...? Roleplay time - BaconSoda - 01-13-2012 The time window has to be reasonable. That said, sometimes it's alright to start shooting before the trader responds. If there is, say, a fighter and he's pirating a Mastodon, that Mastodon is going to take forever to die to fighter guns and has all the time in the world to respond while getting shot at. However, if it is, say, a Bactrian getting pirated by a fighter, the Bactrian takes considerably less time to kill and should be given more time to respond before the fighter starts shooting. What is reasonable really varies from ship to ship. What helps alleviate this against most pirates is cutting your engines completely and turning off mouse movement. Most pirates will not shoot if they see you are stopped completely. If they do start shooting, though, don't take it as the end of civilized negotiations if you are in a heavily armored transport. Three seconds before death is not really reasonable. That guy was probably a jerk and if you had the chat time on using the "/set chattime on" command, then you could take a screenshot of both your death screen with the message on it and then either a screenshot of the death screen with the /time on it or a combination of a screenshot of just your death screen and a screenshot of you on the base with the chat window open with /time to file a report with sufficient evidence. Mind I'm not admin so that might not even be enough, but if I were an admin that's what kind of evidence it would take for me to seriously consider the report. Bomber-cargo piracy is fun. Other than that. Yeah I see your point, but you provided less information so I had to be sure before saying this: Deal with it. Space is dangerous. I think until the station where a trader sells his cargo is always there, but the pirate has to work hard to get his prey, all cargo demands are reasonable. I never do that (without reason) as a pirate, but I don't mind it on my trader. By the way, I have a transport that can run about 30K from an energy-efficiently equipped gunboat. I couldn't test that against a lone bomber, as they tend to go down or turn tail. I can only slap 4K cargo into it, but having it makes me smile on pirate-threads. Should never demand more then you can carry, except for those at war as listed above, and xenos of course. Also rule wise a Pirate can actually start shooting with no demand and knock you down to 1 tick of armour. Then make a demand before killing you. It usually is seen as a dick move, and most traders will be less likely to pay, but still legal. Alot used to do this in past. That way if lawful shows up they just finish quik and run. If you think this Junker was to fast, but do not want to report for sanction? report to Congress. They may be able to help you. Even with a big CAU VI I slapped on the transport in question now I wouldn't be able to run very far. The pirate has no risk in any way. And he didn't have to work for it, he just logged on near the JH as he knew I had to go there. |
