[Already solved. Thanks] What to do? - William Frederick Cody - 01-27-2012

Yesterday evening, my sound chip set on my mainboard died.

A big scratch, my AV-reciever shutted down automatically after that very loud scratching noise.

And now, windows7 is telling me, there is no audio device installed...

Any other possibility than a new mainboard?

Halp plox!

Here is a site in the UK to give you some prices on sound cards:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/soundcards/

Sound cards are very cheap.

I'd recommend a new sound card. Get one of these for example if you want a cheap replacement.: http://www.amazon.de/Creative-Blaster-Audi...214&sr=8-15

If you have some more money to spend, check out the Creative X-Fi series. Avoid the Extreme Audio, but all the others will make a big improvement over your onboard sound card.

Thanks for the answers, i already bought a nice soundcard, which is now connected with my Onkyo.

Now, i am fighting with some preferences, because i can only hear the testing sound until now, but no sound from any other program until now...it works, but only in the testing options.

It was something in the preferences, and now i hear Yehudi Menuhin, and i want to share this wonderful song with you:

Yehudi Menuhin "Violin Concerto D Major, op. 61" (1. Mov.) Beethoven

Enjoy!

And thanks to all!!

Edit: I thought, i cannot add another card, but then the dealer meant, i should have a short PCIE slot. And he sold me a card for it. And yes, there is a short PCIE slot on my mainboard.

And now i have a optical+digital connection from my PC... for me, as an optometrist, a must. Hehe.
