Jump Drives - Zeppy - 01-29-2012 Is there any underlying lore to the Jump Drives at the moment? For example: do they break the speed of light, manipulate space, etc. Who manufactures them. That sort of thing. Jump Drives - Miaou - 01-29-2012 I'm guessing you are talking about jumpgates. From what I have read, they form wormholes that act just like jumpholes. How they actually work is unknown, though there are more theories of how wormholes work on the internet. Jumpgates Wormholes Jump Drives - Captain - 01-29-2012 I think he really means Jump Drives, and for as far as I know it havent been made 'yet' Jump Drives - kikatsu - 01-29-2012 He means the jump drives which will soon be available in lore. Jumpgates create artificial jumpholes as far as I know... check the texas debris fields, the "jumpgate core" is still intact inside the wreckage in the form of a jumphole EDIT: Didn't the original Osiris have jump drives? Jump Drives - Lunaphase - 01-29-2012 In the original FL all capital ships cruiser-size and above had jumpdrives. they appear multiple times in the storyline in this manner. Its not somthing made up, just required alot more energy than a fighter or even gunboat could produce. Jump Drives - Champ - 01-29-2012 All Jump Drive and Jump Gate, Trade Lane or otherwise superluminal travel and information pertaining to said technology is proprieted, owned and protected by Ageira Technologies 8| Really, the physics behind it is theoretical and to do with the general dimensional theories. If you take a piece of paper, use it to represent the second dimension. Roll it so that two ends of the paper touch each other. Suddenly, the finite universe represented on said paper is cyclical - you can go from one end to the other 'instantly', as it's now continuous. Similar ideas with our universe in the third dimension exist, except the shapes are far more complex and involve things more like punched holes, as opposed to connections. This science isn't really detailed ingame though. If it were, we'd have those <strike>stupid</strike> string theory people start to argue with classical Newtonian/Einsteinian physics.:P Just search 'Flatland' on Youtube by the way, it'll explain the concepts much better. Edit: No Zuke, it was definitely Ageira. We had all the breakthroughs. Kishiro is inferior. Bow down to Ageira. Jump Drives - Sarawr!? - 01-29-2012 Admittedly, I'm pretty interested to see how the whole Jump Drives thing will turn out, who will be named to have developed them inRP. Will this open possibilities for a new Corporate/Research Faction? Or would they be developed by one of the current big names? As for how they work, I assume it'd be pretty much like how jump drives in other games work. Anyway I'm definitely interested in seeing how it all plays out/works in the game. Jump Drives - Zukeenee - 01-29-2012 As far as I'm aware, they function in the exact same manner that Jumpgates do. I'd think of it as an internal portable Jumpgate for capital ships. As for the exact physics that allow that... refer to Champ's post, I guess. As for the development of such drives, there were rumors on Kansai Research Station that Kishiro scientists there were working on Jumpdrive technology for their capital ships. Maybe other groups were developing similar technologies, too, but Kishiro is the only one I can remember. Jump Drives - Echo 7-7 - 01-29-2012 ' Wrote:Edit: No Zuke, it was definitely Ageira. Or would they be developed by one of the current big names? Existing factions. Short of a complete retcon into the history of Sirius, new Corporate/Research groups never get far in Discovery since the game mechanics are appallingly limited and there's only so much you can actually do without having a RL specialist in quantum tunnelling or something similar. Jump Drives - SparkyRailgun - 01-29-2012 I think it's pretty safe to say; If the other houses could build jump drives, they could adapt that technology into their GateLane networks. So either it'll be another Ageira monopoly, or another Discovery retcon. EDIT: Anyone seen Last Exile? The Guild of Ageira. 8-| |
