Originally funded solely by the Bretonian Government, Planetform came into existence in late 411 AS, as a group of Cambridge and California scientists banded together to give Planet Harris a new place in Sirius. Due to the naturally planet starved environs of The Barrier, and the ecologically devastated condition of Leeds, it came as no surprise that the Bretonian Crown was more than willing to pour credit after credit into Planetform's promising methods of terraforming, despite the incredibly long-term contract they found themselves in. The future of the Harris and Ayr projects began to cloud in the mid 700's, with the advent of a deadly and fanatical eco-terrorist group known as the 'Gaians'. Exacting what appeared to be a personal vendetta, the Gaians began to hamper Planetform's operations in-system and across Bretonia. Planetform adapted to this threat, placing large bounties on criminal elements that threatened their work. With the situation in Tau 31 seeming to finally stablise, increased hostilities between the Governments of Bretonia and Kusari developed into full-scale war. The Harris project's logistics became increasingly difficult to maintain in light of a Kusari blockade, due to its position as the last Bretonian bastion in the Tau 31 system. Planetform's Bretonian heritage made them no friends with Kusari. Things took a turn for the worse in the years following, when the threat of Gallia was revealed, their forces pushing through the Taus. Harris was left without a Bretonian guard, and Planetform was forced to all but abandon the Harris project. Worse still, Planet Ayr and Perth Station were captured in their entirety by GRN forces during the Bretonian retreat from Edinburgh. Planet Harris' has yet to be assaulted, with an uneasy status-quo developing on the undefended planet. Gallia appears to have little to no interest in terraforming, leaving the incomplete planet of little use to the GRN and their monarch. Local security forces have made sure to avoid aggravating the Gauls, believing their position only secure while the invaders consider them harmless. With the Bretonian government in no position to fund the company as it had in the past, Planetform has been forced to branch out in an attempt to become a Trans-Sirius company, putting more emphasis on it's other projects abroad. In particular, Planetform's trade wing has been reinforced and expanded in order to distribute the company's two innovative and lucrative new inventions, FloraGro and Xenobiotic Filters. The Board of Directors has recently seen fit to acquire several smaller firms in the agriculture and chemical production industries, in an attempt to offset losses in the firm's main business focus, expanding the corporation's portfolio in the process. [color=#009900]Current Projects
[color=#FF6600]Planet Harris Planet Harris represents a significant milestone in Sirius' history: the transition of terraforming from a theoretical concept to a practical science. Harris is the company's longest running project, intended to offset Bretonia's food shortages and planetary overpopulations. With the terraforming process initiated in 450 AS, Harris was scheduled for completion in 820 AS. This deadline is now considered impossible due to incessant pre-war raids from Gaian eco-terrorists, followed by a Kusari blockade of incoming traffic and finally a Gallic invasion that led to the recall of the BAF garrison. While the planet currently remains in Planetform's hands, progress has almost halted due to the threat of a Gallic occupation looming ever present. [color=#FF6600]California Minor California Minor marked Planetform's transition from a local Bretonian concern to an internationally relevant corporation. With operations beginning in 741 AS, Planetform was contracted by the Libertonian government to transform the arid, bitterly cold ice planet into a temperate, self-sufficient world. A working estimate for colonisation was placed at 826 AS. Planetform tackled the challenging project by tapping geothermic vents, releasing large quantities of greenhouse gasses. Alien Organisms and silver deposits have also been utilised to speed the process and initiate industrial scale cloud seeding. The project is largely running according to schedule, with widespread biosphere creation expected to begin within a year. California Minor is currently home to several large factories, producing FloraGro. [color=#FF6600]Planet Ayr Operations to terraform Ayr began in 752 AS, with a colonisation estimate being made for 900 AS. Following the construction of Perth Outpost, Planetform began the terraforming process by bombarding the gas-rich polar icecaps with oxygen asteroids found in the nearby Tain Asteroid Field. This practice was largely halted after Gaians began launching systematic and coordinated raids on Perth from the field, resulting in increasingly long delays. Terraforming gasses were bulk-imported to speed the warming process, which was estimated to become exponential once the polar icecaps began to thaw. Recently leaked reports state that Planetform had managed to overtake their schedule for the first time in over a decade, immediately prior to Edinburgh's fall. Due to the sensitive nature of the current stage of the terraforming process, it is believed that a prolonged lack of planetary maintenance could do untold damage and set the project back by years. [color=#FF6600]Planet Atka Operations to begin terraforming Atka were initiated in 816 AS, prior to the declaration of hostilities between the states of Liberty and Rheinland. With the construction of Cold Bay Depot in orbit, staff were ordered to work under a media blackout order, to ensure relative secrecy. The first basic stages of terraforming were cautiously initiated before the Rheinland Bundstag filed an official complaint against the Republic of Liberty for what it viewed as a precursor to an unacceptable breach of trust and the annexation of the trans-House Independent Worlds. Following the declaration of war and the Liberty Navy's capture of the Hudson system, work was tentatively renewed, the cease and desist order being ignored. Cold Bay is currently home to several large factories, producing Xenobiotic Filters. [color=#FF6600]Planet Carlisle From orbit, Carlisle appears to be an idyllic world, far from the barren balls of ice and rock Planetform is accustomed to dealing with. Despite this, the tropical jungle planet has been deemed completely hostile to human life due to sweltering temperatures and deadly strains of native bacteria prevalent across the planet's surface. Working in tandem with the Cambridge Research Institute and Cryer since 818 AS, Planetform hopes to utilise its industry leading biosphere amendment capabilities to distribute a cocktail of antibiotic proteins across the planet's surface, opening certain temperate corridors for immediate colonisation. Localised paraterraforming has already been considered, with both schemes expected to come to a head within the next year. [color=#009900]Corporate Fleet Operations Eventually deciding that outsourcing their operations to other corporations was not cutting as many costs as it intended, Planetform began to source it's own fleet of transports ships, dedicated to moving the cargoes needed for the various terraforming operations around Sirius. Planetform's trade fleet is responsible for the supply of all of the company's ongoing projects and holdings, ranging from planets undergoing the terraforming process, such as Harris and California Minor, to the maintenance of advanced factories producing cutting edge commodities such as FloraGro and Xenobiotic Filters. Smaller vessels of the trade fleet may also act as scouts, checking desolate and barren planets for potential terraforming viability. When such a planet is detected, the information is usually released to the local governing body, followed by a petition for a contract of services. Planetform has found that it is most efficient to make your own business. [color=#FF6600]Business Partners [color=#33FF33]Synth Foods Coming together to create the product FloraGro, Planetform and Synth Foods share a relatively close relationship in the industry, due to their similar purposes. Cryer Pharmaceuticals With the discovery of a bacterial organism on Atka, Planetform worked with Cryer to create Xenobiotic Filters. The situation on Carlisle also requires the two companies to work closely together, forming a fairly close relationship between them. Friendly [color=#33FF33]Bretonia, Liberty & Rheinland House Authorities and Corporations Planetform maintains a favourable stance towards these houses, as they are their current and likely contractors. Neutral [color=#3333FF]All unlisted factions and Kusari House Authorities & Corporations Planetform's Bretonian heritage cannot be denied, and despite moves to distance itself from them, old habits die hard, and so do grudges. That said, the company is willing to work with whoever will pay them, so the past is mostly left in the past, whether it be for an entire house of the various pirate factions that may have had encounters with Planetform in the past. Hostile [color=#FF0000]Gaians Exhibiting an unwavering hostility towards Planetform and her operations, the company has no time for these fanatical terrorists. I mean, I spend 100M to support a faction which I have waited long to see alive, but then someone with 150M comes and kicks me out? Please clarify this. Planetform Incorporated - SparkyRailgun - 02-02-2012 Hey Escopton; That idea was a theory that admittedly wasn't thought out to it's fullest. We've gone ahead and altered the rules there, how do you feel about them now? And yes, feedback is perfectly okay and encouraged!:smile2: Planetform Incorporated - escopton - 02-02-2012 Well the new write up seems more trust worthy now. Will you create a different inRP thread where I can apply for share purchase? Planetform Incorporated - pform - 02-02-2012 Feel free to send us a communication regarding it. Once our rank structure is finalised the board's members will be shown there, so people will be able to see if a seat is open or not. ~Erica Planetform Incorporated - escopton - 02-02-2012 I posted on the RP stories thread, if it's not the correct place, please have it moved. Planetform Incorporated - RmJ - 02-02-2012 I hope Planetform can get enough base to get going and stay going. I might need a planet or two! xD Peace. Planetform Incorporated - SparkyRailgun - 02-02-2012 It's not outlined in the writeup there, but we do plan to take PFI in a slightly different direction than normal. Not to talk down on earlier incarnations of the faction, but it's evident that the general trading faction idea just doesn't work for it, so the plan is to make deals with those you wouldn't find most lawful corporations even talking to at all. But, such things will be revealed in the future, thanks for your well wishes.:smile2: Planetform Incorporated - Battlesnax - 02-02-2012 My suggestions for your write-up:
Planetform Incorporated - SparkyRailgun - 02-03-2012 ' Wrote:My suggestions for your write-up: Thanks for your suggestions! I'll get around to using most of them later today, but in reply to your first point; As noted, the Diplomacy is how we view others. Yes, they have trampled on our projects and stolen our station, but that doesn't mean we're going to start shooting at them. Look at it like the IMG; they know they'd get crushed if they attempted anything silly. In the end, obviously we don't like them too much, but we would be willing to make money from them if the Bretonian Government never found out. That's difficult and unlikely to happen, but the possibility remains. Planetform's main reason for existing is to adapt planets for human life... That skill of adaptation continues in the corporate level by taking things as they come, even if our beautiful station is conquered by the cheese-eating surrender monkeys.:P The hostile section is for entities we openly fire at if provoked. Thanks again! |
