To: Mara Arin - Sol - 03-01-2012 Hello, Miss Arin. Good news for you, the boss allowed me to share our knowledge on the matter with you. And of course he still wants to be kept informed. While Lumen was a guest in our Headquarters, we recovered a few transmissions from her PDA, which explains part of her past, and the reasons she has changed. The files we recovered are in the attachment in their chronological order. Please be cautious, we do not believe that she's very dangerous, but we may be wrong. Stay safe. This is excellent news as it means I can start preparing for a talk with Lumen. I'm sure this information will be of great help in deepening my understanding of her. Allow me to outline how I'm going to proceed with this problem. Firstly, I'm going to study the materials at my disposal and define my objectives after which I'll try to get in contact with Lumen and get her to meet me in person on a secluded planet or station. In that meeting we'll have a casual talk and I'll get some feedback on events that trouble her most as well as her recent experiences. From there, I'll try to redefine my objectives and proceed with the best therapy. As you can see, most of this depends on her cooperation as forcing her to do something or using drugs will not help in bringing her past self back. On a side note, I'd also like to add that I'm not doing this on behalf of the Guild or any of it's members. It is my personal wish to help her and no one but us has to know about what I am doing. As a scientist and a doctor, I must keep my patients' information a secret, but I will disclose some of the information regarding her as without your help, I couldn't have even started. I hope you will understand that I'm only doing this for her privacy. I'll keep you informed and try to answer all your questions about my approach. Extend my thanks to the rest of the Lost Stars! I've read the transmissions between Ms and Mr Tantalo, Mr Ralusch and Mr Reinhold as well as contacted Lumen. I've arranged a meeting with her in Omicron Gamma this evening, home of the Corsairs. The meeting will take place in space and not on a station or a planet as I had hoped, but it is still fine. She will come with an AI escort and I'll take a bounty hunter with me, although any addition pilots you could spare would also be of great help. In the meanwhile, I'll be on planet Kyushu for the next eight hours after which I'll depart for Gamma. If you however cannot spare any pilots, I'll be sure to make a report about our meeting nevertheless. Arin out. To: Mara Arin - Sol - 03-08-2012 Greetings, Miss Arin. It's good to hear that you are making progress on this. However, I once again ask you to be very careful, she's alright with her guns. And a meeting in the home of corsairs is asking for trouble. I am sure this is another game of hers. Good news is that, we can spare one pilot to help you. Tavish agreed to keep you company while you are meeting this Lumen. I will provide you with his contact info in the attachment, so you can set up a meeting time and point. She may ask of you strange things, and if anything happens to Tavish, we will not give up the chase on that matter. You know how fierce we can be while we do that. Good luck out there Miss Arin, and be safe. Vigilante Clarence Rowe Attachments: Comm ID 675342LSV Tavish Degroot To: Mara Arin - Ganimed - 03-24-2012 *** From: Mara Arin, stationed at Battleship Hood *** *** [color=#CC6600]To: Clarence Rowe *** *** *** Affiliation: IMG, Research and Exploration Division, Recruit rank Greetings Mr Rowe. I would like to thank Mr Degroot on assisting me with Ms Tantalo as without his help, the „chat“ we had could have turned a lot different. Allow me to set the scene: once I arrived in Omicron Theta around 22:00, I was contacted by Ms Tantalo and told to follow her to Omicron Gamma as she wanted to show me something . She described it as something personal and of great importance, which was suspicious, but I took the bait anyway. Under heavy escort of Mr Flanders and Degroot I was sure nothing bad could have happened, but I was completely wrong. After traveling for about ten clicks into the system we saw a dreadful sight of 20 different ships, ranging from fighters to battleships, all fighting between each other. SCRA, Corsairs, Hessians and even Freelancers like Ms Tantalo and her AI drone were firing upon each other creating a complete chaos. At the same time few RoS pilots sighted us and were kind enough to oversee my wellbeing on which I'm very thankful and if not for them, we might have never returned to Java station safely. We evacuated the system soon afterwards per my chief security officer's advice, Mr Flanders, and went to the nearest Freeport where we awaited Ms Tantalo to come and explain herself. Soon afterwards, Ms Tantalo came joking around, saying „this is the way Corsairs perform their welcome dance“ which I found quite inappropriate for the situation we were in. Six heavy fighter and bomber class vessels were at the ready to dispatch Ms Tantalo if she was to turn aggressive, but thankfully, she is still a stable individual and refrained from offensive actions. She went on to state that she did not expect SCRA to show up, but it made her job of killing Corseirs easier. I tried to begin the therapy, but she quickly turned the subject on Mr Degroot and how it was funny I decided to bring him along. I went on with the story that I'd like to put her skills to good use, alluding to recruit her for a better cause, just as a front, so I could get to her more quickly and begin the therapy. It was also interesting how she didn't ask too many questions about how I contacted her, but I guess she concluded it was by your grace after seeing Mr Degroot. We made an effort to overpower Ms Tantalo psychologically by attacking her points of view like why it's better to kill Outcasts then Corsairs and how she doesn't hunt slavers for unknown reasons. As expected, she succumbed to the pressure defending herself with arguments like „I fight those I feel needed to be brought to justice“ and switching the subject by saying Mr Degroot has something that belongs to her. When I attempted to uncover her deeper motives for behaving like this, I've failed as she quickly derailed the conversation until almost an hour later where I tried to explain how I'm not here to recruit her, but to help her deal with her past which is clouding her judgment. She made no attempts to further explain and justify her actions, clearly hiding behind the mask called „Lumen“, giving me no arguments that would led me to believe what she was doing is right. She continued saying we're trying to recruit her, missing my point completely and pulling a veil of shadow between us. At that point, Mr Flanders and I pressured her further at which point she broke down completely and stated „you should stop wasting your and my time“. We left her stating the offer to help her still stands and let her mumble around 23:00. The patient is providing ample resistance without clear arguments which indicates she is either hiding something or is lead by feelings instead of reason. After pinning her down on multiple fronts, she simply defended herself with switching the subject and later stating this was all a waste of time. This indicates we were very close to breaking her shell and uncovering her true motives behind the mask of „Lumen“ . It is clear that those motives lie within her past as every patient that has a need of hiding behind a false identity has some overpowering issues with which he cannot deal with. It is my professional opinion that if I was able to uncover her motives, which are clearly a product of her personal feelings, that I could repair the damage and restore her true personality and a voice of reason. Until then, she will be lead by powerful feelings such as anger, fear and pain, clouding her judgment and impairing her cognitive skills. This might all seem far fetched, but I cannot do anything more then stay optimistic she will accept my offer and consent with the therapy. Without her prior approval, there is little I can do as the patient needs to want my help if I'm to help her. I'll attach the whole conversation log, so you can judge the situation for yourself. [attachmentid=945] To: Mara Arin - Sol - 03-24-2012 Hello again, This is a very detailed report, thank you. Though, it has been a while since the last time we spoke, Ms. Arin, so we were kinda worried about you. Good thing you are safe. Tavish returned earlier than you, and with a guest as well. Guess you were busy with stuff. Welcome back. We are glad that you are honoring our agreement and keeping us informed on the matter. But more recent events and stranger news followed up after your encounter in Omicron Gamma and Theta. Which led to this conclusion: Quoting Sol here, "Don't care about that confused brat one bit, anymore,". Means that you don't have to keep us informed on the matter any longer if you decide to continue with your research. But you know... if any information you happen to get from her that would affect the Lost Star or the IMG, our friends we wish to protect, in any manner, we would appreciate if you inform us still. Good luck. Will see you in Taus soon probably. Vigilante Clarence Rowe To: Mara Arin - Ganimed - 03-24-2012 *** From: Mara Arin, stationed at Battleship Hood *** *** [color=#CC6600]To: Clarence Rowe *** *** *** Affiliation: IMG, Research and Exploration Division, Recruit rank I didn't expect that I'd be absent so long either, but my personal excellence must come before my work and wishes because I'm in great need of Kusari citizenship and a diploma I'll gain if I finish the Kyushu's medical college I'm currently attending. Due to exams, I had to take a break, which explains why we didn't talk for so long. One could argue that I could have contacted you regardless, but I couldn't make a subpar report or come empty handed after an encounter with Ms Tantalo. I appreciate you worrying for my safety, but a pilot from ship named "Valkyrie" carrying a "RoS" tag escorted me to Tau space after parting with Mr Degroot. These unfortunate events that had happened in my absence seem to have a major impact on Sol's perception of Ms Tantalo as shown by the quote you gave, so I'd much appreciate if you could share the information why such a twist happened. I'm quite interested in this guest Mr Degroot brought back with him too as well as the news you mentioned. It breaks my heart that Sol decided to change his opinion about Ms Tantalo's need for professional aid as I had high hopes the therapy would work, but my offer to her still stands and will still uphold our agreement. I hope I'll see you in Taus soon Mr Rowe. Extend my thanks to all the Lost Star Freelancers. To: Mara Arin - Sol - 03-25-2012 Alright, Ms. Arin. You can of course keep us informed on the matter if you wish so. Don't let Sol to stop you. You should, however, speak with Tavish about the latest happenings, as stuff are just too personal to discuss with a third party without his consent now. In fact, Tavish would need more help from you than Lumen probably. If you can make him all happy once again, we will be thankful. I would like to add that this is a personal request from me, and other Vigilantes are not aware of this request. See you soon. I still owe Lost Star Freelancer for saving my ship twice from predatory Outcasts and AIs which wanted my money and my life, but thankfully under your leadership I was saved. I will contact Mr Degroot immediately in hopes the damage is still repairable. To: Mara Arin - Ganimed - 03-25-2012 *** From: Mara Arin, stationed at Battleship Hood *** *** [color=#CC6600]To: Clarence Rowe *** *** *** Affiliation: IMG, Research and Exploration Division, Recruit rank I'd like to make a quick report on my progress on Mr Degroot. Once I contacted him per your request, he made ample resistance and acted like he was spending quite some time with Ms Tantalo, rejecting my help outright. Without your help, I may have never been able to confront him. Whatever you did Mr Rowe, made him come out of shell just enough, so I can shoot some question at him. Mr Degroot was very secretive about the whole matter and assured me that whatever happened in his private life would not in any way affect how he performs his job. I asked him some question about Ms Tantalo and he gave some suspicious answers leading me to believe he was ready her help her at one point, but she did something which he didn't specify that changed his opinion. He also failed to answer most other question about her defending himself with words like "it doesn't matter what she did". Such argument indicates he is hiding something. I continued and switched the subject to you giving an illusion I'm more interested in his relationship with others then in him alone. He said you two have different opinions regarding what had happened because you don't know the whole story. He also added that he isn't going to share the rest with you either and that you may poke around, but you will never find the truth unless you ask Ms Tantalo personally. I further pressured him to tell me what would happen if she spoke out about it after which he replied "nothing". From that point onwards it was clear he has no argument as to why he wouldn't tell me what happened as if we are to trust him words nothing would change and no one would be affected. A very similar resistance was found when I confronted Ms Tantalo and I fear Mr Degroot might be going the same route as she is. Denial. Remind Mr Degroot that, as a doctor, I have to keep my our about a patients privacy, he just needs to tell me he doesn't want me to share the information. Many people, including Ms Tantalo and Mr Degroot, forget that I'm bound by an oath. IF you wish, you may view the converstation log. |
