Gallic artifacts - Lucky Luke - 03-11-2012

After asking around a bit, I've learnt that gallic artifacts can't be mined. The buying price for them in Gallia is 50k, and the selling price in Lambda is ~54k. Is this commodity there for RP-purposes only? Because I can't think of anyone who would risk investing that much cash, in order to make it a regular trade/smuggling route. A 5k transport would cost 250 mill to fill up, and then you'd have to haul it through high risk space in order to make 20 mill profit.

Wouldn't it be better to do one or both of the following... Lower the buying price to 30-40k, and/or make it mineable. The droprate should be low considering the possible profit, but still high enough to make it interesting. The effects from this would be that Gallia would be activated. Miners, traders, pirates, escorts and lawfuls would suddenly have a reason for existing in Gallia. From what I understand, Gallia is currently a powertraders paradise, since there are only traders. It would also revitalize activity in Outcast space, which currently is very low, since many transports would choose to go through Alpha and Eta to get to Lambda. It would also breathe life into the interaction between Outcasts and Corsairs.

I know this would draw negative aspects too. Many of us remember how it was in Dublin and Tau 23, before the mining mod was re-worked. I don't have a really good solution to that. Maybe there should be some sort of license to mine and haul it. Something that can ONLY be given to official faction members. Maybe the sanctions for rule violators where these artifacts are involved should be severe. For instance... If a trader F1's, or a pirate breaks PvP-rules... Beside the usual guns and credits sanction, maybe there should also be an automatic one-month-off-the-server sanction for it. That would make people think twice.

I don't know... This was just off the top of my head, and I know a lot of aspects needs to be covered before doing this. But I seriously think it would put a crowd in Gallia. Just imagine all the possibilities! It would be really interesting to hear the thoughts from all of you, but especially from the factions, devs and admins.

Artifacts should stay rare. This is a commodity you don't make. Artefacts shouldn't even be traded that much, imho.
