What do you think about a gunboat-sized ship that has 3 or 4 torpedo mounts?
Is this possible? I'm not literate at modding and ship designing at all, but I've had the idea in my head for a month. Actually it came to me while I was playing Sins of a Solar Empire of all things.
The "torpedo boat" would act sort of like a bomber on steroids. It's bigger, clunkier, and much slower, but is perfect for fleet support. It could fly in, launch torpedoes at enemy cap ships or bases, and fly out. I wish I had some sort of picture to post with this but as of right now I don't.
If anyone thinks it's a good idea, maybe I'll start looking into ship designing :)

I could see this as a support ship, launching missiles, and perhaps other things (Different weapons?)
However, bombers can already do work on caps. A few can kill one pretty easily. So, I'd say the shield should be a freighter shield, it should be slow and not too maneuverable, but if defended, could turn the tide in a capital battle. It would also encourage snub escorts to take one out if the enemy had one. It would need work, but I like the idea.

two bombers can take out a dessie already.
i could see this as a base-killing platform, something that needs to be group-jumped into position, i.e. no cruise and no impulse, only a thruster.

Gunbot-sized? Really good idea! I follow you, it could add more choice for peoples. It permits peoples to have different combat types.
