New to Discovery and need Advice on SP - psvialli - 06-27-2012

OK just discovered Freelancer so downloaded the MOD and started to play SP however when I start a new game I get to level 38 which is great , however I start with a ship that has a ADMIN shield installed which looks like it cannot be destroyed , and if I sell it is worth over 3m

So I can just purchase anything from the start , which ruined the game - is there a way to start without that shield - or start like you do in vanilla ?

This. If you want to play single player, uninstall Discovery and play through the vanilla storyline. I highly recommend it--it's fun stuff.

Then install the Discovery mod and hop on the server for more fun.

OK thanks guys I thought it Expanded the SP as well , OK ill run Vanilla for a while then hope onto a server once i get better!

It is indeed for multiplayer. That means, it would be much more funny for you, if you discover the mod in multiplayer.

Singleplayer is nice. I have wasted more than 100 hours on it I think. Just start on the server. Even if you are an SP-Ace, you would have to learn many new things, when you go into space the first time.

You could set up your own lan server and play as if it were SP, without the admin shield and such.
If you want a hand in doing that, throw me a PM, otherwise enjoy the Campaign.

OK will bite the bullet and jump onto a server and get started, is there a guide for Noobs ? to get started quicker shall i just trade to get some cash first or get some missions etc..

Get some loan, buy med transport and start trading.....and dont forget, learn to RP while you do that

Playing through SP will get you up to speed with the background of the game, and reading up on the Wiki/forum/flying online will help you find out about what has happened in the 20 years since the Campaign.
