Independent Mobility - Corsair - 08-31-2012 // Read backstory first // Or the summarized version if you're lazy The Katanfreia, a battered Kusari Destroyer, sat silently in Leniex's embrace. The crew on board were preparing the ship to move out for the first time in weeks. It had been caught in a battle and had been severely damaged. Its hull had been patched and repaired with the Legion's iconic gray and red plating. This gave the ship a gaunt and haggard look, combined with the ship's overall grimy appearance.
Fuel lines detached, mooring magnets released. The Speaker called out on local frequencies, "This is the Katanfreia. Requesting escort to the Magellan system" As the ship departed Leniex, two Prosecutors took up a position on either side of it. Cruise engines charged and the three vessels disappeared into the murky yellow cloud. Independent Mobility - Coldzero - 09-06-2012 Gazes briefly at the ship then looks ahead.
Hey.. When did we get one of those ships? If I was supposed to be briefed on what was going on, I didn't bother listening or even attending for that matter since it's too boring. Where are we going by the way?
Independent Mobility - Corsair - 09-07-2012 "We are not part of your Legion. We are independent.. but allied."
The viewscreen stayed blank, the video feed deliberately cut. The voice was harsh and somewhat muffled, as if the speaker had something in their mouth. "We are going to Magellan. Your escort ends there." Independent Mobility - Corsair - 09-07-2012 Our first experience outside of Vespucci in many long months. We entered the Leeds system from whence we came and found that much has changed. Our computer archives had no reference to the Gallic invasion of Leeds until we passed nearby the planet.. Evidently the system was coded as being part of the Bretonian Kusarians- Exiles, they called themselves. Perhaps when the ship was registered as missing, it was put on a list of ships that were no longer recognized as official Kusari Naval Forces. Whatever the cause, the end result is the same: the Exiles believed we were one of them at first.. And when they realized we were not, they demanded we declare our intentions. We responded with the truth.
They had not heard of the ExMortis- as expected. They then told us to declare our intent: To which I lied. The reason why had not been converted on the spot is because there were several of them. A destroyer, gunboat and several fighters.. We accused us of trapezing across their territory with consequence- we pointed out that they held the upper hand. They then wished to know why our computer identified us as Exiles- we explained that our computers had not yet disconnected the identification signal. Luckily, the commanding Exile released us with a harsh warning: When we have gathered more strength, perhaps we shall come back. But for now we must stick to sparsely populated Edge Worlds. The Gallics seem to be a force of reckoning and will be avoided at all costs. We scarcely avoided death today, but I have confidence in our ability to survive. We always have. Independent Mobility - Corsair - 09-08-2012
After encountering the Exiles yesterday, we realized that we needed to update our computer archives with the latest information. We slipped into the California system and attempted to keep a low profile. Unfortunately, two police offers arrived.
We feared they would call for support and attack; luckily, they did not. They asked to know our purpose, and we answered truthfully. They received and believed the news as poorly as we anticipated. They were able to ascertain our nature, however crudely, over the course of the conversation. To which we replied, Our response was a bluff, of course. We would not have been able to leave the system if we had opened fire. They did give an interesting idea, however. When we mentioned that we were controlled by virus-operated nanobots, they expressed concern that we could somehow 'infect' computers and machines much as we infect animals. This is not something we had considered, and is certainly worth looking into. If we could discover how to infect computers, then the Katanfreia would be fully under our control. Currently there are issues with our transponder: it won't stop broadcasting the Exile's signature. If we can switch that off, then we can begin to tamper with the ship's hardware without fear of automated reactor shutdown. Our next destination will be Rheinland- we might be able to find some support there among the Hellfire Legion's allies.. We will send a preliminary message to herald our coming. Until then, this is the Speaker. Signing off. Independent Mobility - Corsair - 09-09-2012 While making our way to Rheinland.. We got lost. Ended up in the Tau systems, and made our way to Kyushu of all places. Back where the Katanfreia was originally captured. The battleship Nagano opened fire as soon as we came through, and we dodged into the asteroid field towards the left. There, we found a large and impressive cruiser belonging to the Colonial Republic, and we engaged in dialogue. They started by delivering a warning about a 'Johnathan LeStrange', a Gallic Junker. The captain asked us to kill this Junker if we saw them. We care little who this LeStrange is, or who he is involved with. But he is a potential recruit, and we shall certainly keep our eyes open. The less people who will miss him, the better. The Colonial then asked how we would go about eliminating 'LeStrange', should we come across him. We answered truthfully. We didn't mention that 'injection' meant 'bite'. They then asked what we thought of humanity, Nomads and the value of human life. Odd questions, but we answered. We were then asked about which groups we associated with. We answered that the Legion has proven to be our friends, Rogues and Mollies have attacked us, the Exiles dislike us, and the LWB/Unioners/AGS are potential allies. -Continued Below- Independent Mobility - Corsair - 09-09-2012 The conversation had been stretching for quite some time now, and the Colonial was getting more comfortable with asking questions. He asked an interesting one then. He asked why, if we were so intent on staying alive, are we out in the depths of space, in danger of dying?
That is why we are out here. We have no less of an exploratory desire than humans do. We want to see the stars, just as much as we wish to spread ourselves across them. The ExMortis do not want to stay cloistered in a laboratory. That is not our place. Independent Mobility - Corsair - 09-16-2012 Independent Mobility - Corsair - 09-21-2012 We made contact with a Nomad today. It was a disappointing experience- not only was the specimen young, but it is in what seems to be a childish phase of rebellion against the primary Nomad intelligence, the 'Mindshare'. Communication Logs Wrote:[20.09.2012 21:23:04] ExMortis.Core: Speaker: Oh. Hello. RE: Independent Mobility - Corsair - 10-05-2012 The stupidity of humans amazes me. We have recently begun 'recruiting' in the Tau systems and have encountered several Gallic vessels so far. First, we offer a reasonable demand: All crew that other than the pilot/captain are taken, in return the ship is allowed to continue its journey. Some have tried to bribe us, give us cargo, or even beg for their lives. But none have willingly given up their crew as tribute. How fanatical. They end up losing their lives, their cargo and their ship. Nobody wins in that scenario. Well, that's not entirely true. We get what's left of their charred corpses and cargo. But we need more bodies to fill our ranks before we can expand our operations, or even crew this vessel to its maximum capabilities. It's equally amusing when they bring in escorts. They believe they can kill us before we collect our tribute. They are wrong. Hopefully we will begin encountering non-civilian ships. We hope to re-contact the BAF with many Gallic Military kills under our belt. That will get their attention. Until then, we shall continue to replenish our numbers and supplies on these trade vessels, even if it is not very enjoyable. |
