Well, I've been seeing alot of fluxuation, some from new people others from olden types. So I'm asking everybody what they think it is. I'm leaning more towards no wipe myself, but that may just be wishful thinking.

If the admins want to meddle in the affairs of us mortals, then your input would be invaluable as well.

Anyways, this is to see how much of the community says what in order to get a general idea of what would happen should France come into play.

I pm'd Igiss asking about this, I know he's very busy, but if I get a reply that would be great, because I just spent too much time to loose everything now, it may not be worth it.

So I'm not voting because I don't know.

I was told that anything involving creating/deleting (or maybe just deleting, not sure) any official faction that appears on the rep sheet requires a playerwipe.

Deleting needs a total revamp of the mod, and thus a player wipe,

However, I'm not sure about adding faction, I've been told yes and no...

Anyway, Igiss will post an update about all this stuff tomorow

I think (not sure) it depends on how the game handles not finding an specific reputation on the character file. If the game will just deem the file corrupted for the lack of that particular reputation, then it "would require" a character wipe, so everyone could create characters under the new character file format (this is considering that is the only issue).

If that's the case and a wipe is really needed (I don't even know what you guys are talking about, by the way), what could be done alternatively is writing an application to open each individual file and add the needed reputation(s). If that's the only conflicting issue between versions, it would be an easy thing to do.

Note: (1) I don't even know if there is and what is this said issue with the character files having to be wiped clean when you add a new group; (2) The reputation thing is what first crossed my mind when I saw this; (3) Is the about the France thing? I thought that was an 'april fools thing', only in May... Go figure.

EDIT: By the way, when I say, "It would be an easy thing to do" I mean writing a program that does it.

I think I saw either Treewyrm or even Igiss say somewhere that adding new NPC
faction requires a player wipe to work properly..

Unless its certain, lets not all panic and run around naked screaming, allright?
Untill there's an official announcement of a whipe. If there is one, THEN you can.

I voted yes. To me it's exciting every time I discover new areas together with others, who hasn't been there. (Remembers me to Diablo2 after a ladder reset.)

And where's the problem? Cap whores lose their ships, and the rest of us will have their ships back, soon. Furthermore the official factions will work together more often, in order to get back to their old strength. In my opinion this is a desireable development.

The question is "Would characters get wiped if a House was added", not "SHOULD characters get wiped if a House was added".

And what about those people who RP their capships? They get stuck on the low end too?

Remember, having a capital ship does not make you a capwhore.

I've dealt some with the character files and I'm under the impression that the problem is the game deeming those files corrupted for the lack of information related to the new groups and areas. At first I thought of the reputation. The character file has a list with all possible reputations from start, even though you cannot see them. I was under the impression that the game, upon trying to open old version files not containing the new reputations would consider them corrupted and not accept them. I was considering only the reputations because that was the part of the file I dealt with the most. But the character file also includes information about bases and systems, the ones you've visited or not.

That's what it looks like:

Quote:[Player]
description = 00310032002f00320031002f00300037002000310039003a00310033003a00310036

...

The yellow parts are the ones I think are bound to cause trouble between versions, since they list every single group, base and system there's in the game. I removed quite a lot of information there. A complete starting character file, if opened in a text editor, has something around 20 pages. I think the game tries and opens the files, doesn't find all the information it needs and discards it, or crashes (not likely-ish).
