Freelancers dont have any faction tech of their own, so I think it makes sense for them to use civillian equipment, I dont see how that equipment being made in a certain house, should make it suddenly break a little.

However I understand that this is a bit of an OORP balance issue, based around house corps. ATM house corps get their house tech free, as an advantage over Freelancers, and its GOOD that house corps have an advantage tying them to their houses over FLs, But it doesnt need to be done by taking CIVILLIAN tech away from Freelancers; See, it would almost be a decent balancing system if it wasnt for Gallia; Atm Gallic Freelancers have to use SIRIAN civ tech if they want to work without a nerf, which is RIDICULOUS! (And probably illegal.) Though even without this, the balance would be silly, (this is just the worst issue it has brought up) because there is no RP reason for FLs to have a nerf against hosue CIV tech.

Therefore I propose a different system, FLs can use House Civ tech, and to keep the house corps with an advantage over FLs, tying them to their houses, they get to use military tech with no nerf. Due to their Restriction to GBs, they wouldnt get as big ships as police/navy, so no need to worry about them getting fully militarised, plus it would let them use the Gbs they've been asking for.

An alternative solution would be to introduce house FL IDs.

Last time I checked Freelancers can use any house civilian with 90% powercore. Nerf is so small I never fell any difference.

The issue is not "how big the nerf is" the issue is why do freelancers have a nerf to civilian ships/tech IN THE FIRST PLACE? Freelancers have a 90% nerf to gallic civilian ships. Are there not Gallic freelancers? If I make a Gallic Freelancer, do I need to suffer a nerf even though I'm using the right ship? Evidently devs say yes which is just not logical in my opinion.

I do agree to this because It is annoying that i have to use Non gallic tech on my gallic Freelncer which in the end is just a Sirian freelancer that neutral to Gallia so its pointless You can not have a "gallic" Freelancer it doesn't Happen obviously

Nerfs, in general, should go.

EDIT- Or at least made physically possible to still fight in in all cases. 75% as a base limit would be acceptable and allow for everyone to have Role Play freedom without having a super ship.

I certainly understand this sentiment. sometimes I feel like chucking the technerf altogether. 75% on a bh ship? really?

Anyway I agree that it's a bit stupid that you're nerfed to 90% on ships that are made for civilians, but 90% isn't that bad of a nerf. so it's really just there for completeness. I would say get rid of it. freelancers already face ship restrictions by way of cargo limits and on top of that apparently by way of rp of house navies.

can someone answer me a question though. what is the specific reason for a 3600 cargo limit on FL id? Could I for example use a cargo ship with higher than that cargo, as long as I didn't use the rest of the cargo? for example, as long as I equipped an equipment that was like a "retrofit license" that certified the ship as a light version for civilian sale that took up 2000 cargo or that? I'm mainly thinking of the slaver liner and peopls problems with it.

Best way to think of the model is that spare parts are critical. If you have good rep you can parts easily, otherwise you have to rig up temporary solutions sometimes or smuggle parts or ... you suffer because you dont have access to the parts supply chain.

Freelancer means "unaffiliated" as in "not affiliated" as in you are some Joe off the street and they arent going to give you parts without good papers
