Gunboat Jericho - Exsiled_one - 05-27-2008

Hello and welcome to "your chance"! This will hopefully be interesting for all you that post here, and It will give you chance to help me with my roleplay and steer the Jericho gunboat into a direction we all think its best.
For now I'm asking for tehnical and roleplaying advice that will from time to time steer into the game mehanics and oorp. Thats all okay, and actually any input from heavy criticism to mindless praise (yay!) is appreciated.

Here's bit of background:

Four friends from planet Leeds have worked for 8 years together for BMM in southampton shipyard. Repairing the ships, doing maintenance work and patching up missile holes from the pirate encounters. It was a hard job, but they were good at it and the pay wasn't bad either considering the work environment they had. Things started falling apart with introduction of the new maintenance system BMM presented and welders and maintenance workers were starting to be redundant. It wasn't long until all four of them have found themself with three months of forced vacation followed by few excuses and a handshake. They were laid off. Having families and what not but having no job was a no good situation for all of them, so they have decided to take whatever job is offered out there in their craft. Trafalgar was a perfect place for them. They pay was lower, and the tools were worse, but strip off a thruster there and weld Corsair's wing and you can pretty much cover your and your existence. Things weren't good but there was no alternative either.
One day changed all that though, as they have stumbled upon something that will change their lives as they know it, and occupy them for sure for next year or two. An old wreck of Bretonnia Gunboat Bentley. The wreck was just that - wreck. The circuits were fried, navigational computer was gone, left wing was blown off and it was obviously stripped off any guns it had left. And stripped badly to mention. Since Trafalgar was a slow place from time to time, they've decided to drag the ship (or whats left of it) back to the base and work on it in their spare time. Construction went slow, but it kept them busy, and they were working on salvaging the parts for it from different kind of ships.
At the present moment, the thing is actually flying and holding itself together. Renaming the ship to "Jericho" they have undocked from the Trafalgar for tests first time few weeks ago, but kept their presence hidden. Although they're flying under Junker flags now, these local patriots from Leeds actually want to join the Bretonnia home Guard and repay their debt to the great nation thats being invaded from both outside and inside.

Okay, now that you know the short story behind the situation you should know my opinions and desires for Jericho. As you realized its a crew of 4 inside, with a possible additions later, but basically its four local boys who don't have much experience in the ship they're flying. The ship itself should be a wreck, but its actually impossible to do that because you cannot blow ship components away without blowing up the entire ship.

I was actually ready to lose it's wing, tail or even the cockpit and fly it half manned and half gunned, after all I'm doing it for the fun of the roleplay not for the thrill of the combat. Since blowing up isn't an option, I will probably demount one or two turrets and certainly demount the forward cannon bretonnia has to offer, and probably do some other things as well.
This is the part where you guys fit in. As well as the rp advice on how to move on this story, advice on how to set up this bretonnia gunboat would also be needed.
I've been contemplating some ideas but losing that front gun is a first serious one. Also I have considered damaging the components and not repairing them so the ship cannot sustain long combat before turning into another wreck.

Ofcourse, ship is just purchased and it's sitting around New London with civillian ID and won't move from there until I get the permission to start the roleplay from QCRF or other bretonnia authority, because I don't want to force this thing into them.
The ideas about affiliation id are also something I need to think about.

I can't see why you shouldn't have BAF or BPA tag and affiliation. Not sure which best suits Home Guard. I have a BPA character and to be honest he doesn't get out much because Bretonia is pretty much at war and the military are doing a lot of the fighting. Perhaps they could start off at the border station in Manchester meeting and greeting, checking papers, watching out for saboteurs.

The QCRF does strictly control deployment of anything above bomber class to Lieutenant or above and even then it must come with permission from the C.O.; but these chaps sound nice. Maybe no thruster? (like it makes a difference to that hulk) or put splitters where that forward gun and turrets are supposed to be. Thats making it prettyy much a Home Guard level of defense craft, i.e. crap.

The QCRF assume that any other vessel in BAF is "under Admiralty command" so you'll be trusted to a degree, more by the QCR than the QCO I would say, who are dreadful snobs from the upper classes. Well I am at least.

But the Home Guard would certainly have the respect and admiration of the ordinary folk.

Great, just what I wanted to hear!
The thruster idea is good, or maybe just a second grade thruster (start one) so it wears out in two seconds.
Ofcourse they'ld listen to the admirality, they're eager to serve

Shameless bump and a request. I need a photoshop sig, it will be quite simple. I just need someone who can toy around the bretonnia gunship picture and edit it bit to look rusted blown up and barely holding together. Maybe with some parts welded to it and things like that.
I'ld pay with 50mil in game cash if i'm happy with the work ofcourse.

Suggestions from the *insert egotistical remark* ~ Master of Ameture Writing?:P
(It's funny I can't spell ameture... Or is that right? It doesn't look right...)

Anyways. So here's what I've got to say.

1 - Elaborate on where exactly they found it, how, and what they were doing at the time of the discovery.

2 - Have something exciting when they unseal the airlock to the entrance of the ship. A skeleton *insert closet*, weird technology (NOMADZ?!), I don't know, but something to build interest. Unless of course the door/cargo bay openy thingy was already busted open when they found it, but still make it exciting when they take it inside and explore the interior.

3 - I'd say use maybe four GB turrets and have the rest be normal. Like, a Purple Goddess type of normal; because they probably couldn't afford/acquire more military turrets. So half-gunned isn't necessary, just half-militarily gunned.

4 - Have a sort of timeline. If construction went slow, how slow? What did they do during that slow time (other than build it); in other words, what happened in their day-to-day lives on the way to and from work or what have you. Like, somebody found something in a land-fill. Or somebody's appartment was hit by an out of control Starflier (:P). Stuff like that.

Anywho, thats all I think. And since its a short background, obviously you're missing some (or alot) of details. But yep... Looks nice.

Thanks for the input. Ofcourse the story is alot bigger, I am just laying a base one here so I can get either green or red light from the QCRF themselves.
As you can see I'll hire someone with better photoshop skills than mine and send him material I'ld need. It will probably be just some sketches, plans of the ship, mountings of weapons and probably the ship log of the CSV pilots that found the ship. (the interior was empty tho, to dissapoint you, the ship was looted clean, probably mollies or corsairs, but who can guess.. or can they?))

but yes, this is exactly what kind of an imput i'ld like to see, so I make sure I don't leave out anything from the story.
I don't want to be yet another generic independent with the capital ship, so help me out!:D

But hey, 50mil.. I bet you won't spend a full hour on doing the ship if you know your skills.

working on it now. I cant promise much, as I'm using very limited programs (sometimes i'd kill for photoshop...) but I might be able to make it look semi rustic.
