Helpful List of Faction/Group Tags - Narcotic - 10-20-2012
I've always wondered, why there's no complete list, showing all the faction/group/family tags, used on Discovery. It might be handy for newcomers, who aren't used to the many tags and factions. But also for veterans who're not that good in remembering names. And since there exist hundreds of newer and older groups, one can't simply know them all.
So I thought it'd be useful, to write them all down and collect them in a clean list. First for personal use, but later I thought: "Why not sharing it?"

White: Incomplete Information
Light green: Active, unofficial group
Green: Active, official group
Light red: Inactive group
Red: Banned, changed or deleted group
Light green: Active, unofficial group
Green: Active, official group
Light red: Inactive group
Red: Banned, changed or deleted group
As you can see, it's not complete yet. Of those 415 (/edit: 426) groups, I've collected so far, are 158 (/edit: 127) names missing. Because I just don't know their group names and used IFF/ID. You also might have noticed, that there are many groups which don't exist anymore. Well, I added them anyways, because I found it interesting to see them all. It might also be useful for people, searching for a new tag which wasn't used yet.
Of course, I'd like to try to keep the list updated, and even fill the gaps. So if you'd like to help me, editing the list, drop me a PM with your e-mail address or tell me here.
Anyhow, that'd be all for now. I'll bump this thread for new updates, and to keep it visible to newcomers.

There's a few that could do with more detail...
[WRF] = West Rheinland Flotte - rheinland military - inactive, may have disbanded.
{R} = A bunch of transports that have turtles protecting them - Not sure what the hell they're trying to be - active, and syswalling in virginia.
TF7| no longer exist.
One or two of those like [Ro] for example, may actually be nationality tags.

The {R} was acutally the tag for a little pirate band called Rotakians, but these do not exist anymore.
Although I have seen one ship still using that tag. Perhaps a new one.

Well nice to see this.. allways handy indeed. As for TAZ its not entirely correct. As we don't have Zoner id's its like OSI we have an own ID.

Does seem pretty useful, nice idea.
Some things I've noticed that could be updated. I guess some of them are likely copying errors, but here they are:
-VF) were Bundschuh IDed and IFFed, Official, now disbanded.
(SR~ were recently denied officiality
USI are official
AFA recently lost their official status
RFP are Official, possibly inactive by your criteria, led by Bommel (rwx on the forums)
[U] were official (not just a Request)
[UC] have yet to go for officiality, they are fairly active
From what you've said about the {R} being Rotakians, I'd suggest talking to Hell Hunter about the 77th
+LE+ are led by Bret (SMI-Great.Fox), believe they'd be Unofficial - Inactive until Gallia is updated by his intentions
|CoM have requested officiality, inactive by your criteria, led by Yahoo_Hunter
|IDF are active
SMP| (with the one line after) use Freelancer IFF/ID
BAF| is now led by FallenKnight, I believe Pacific is the second in command
BPA) now has me as Second in command
Buc| have about 3 hours activity from Henry, not quite sure if that's active or not...
CR| are Active, led by Dane Summers with me as second in command
DHC- aren't Retired, one of the more active factions
Gateway) were stripped of their officiality, and are inactive. The current faction use the GW| tag
IKN- have requested officiality, not sure on the exact leadership structure
IMG| no longer has Nick (SpaceTime) as leader, who passed it on to Jack. Aeternus Doleo is Second by my reckoning
OS&C| are official but inactive
QCP| is now a sub-faction of BAF|, and led by Diomedes from the look of things
Samura| is one of the most active factions on the server
SCRA|'s activity has been changed from LolRawr since I started typing this
VWA| are unofficial, I'd guess inactive

from my own experience:
63rd| Order Faction, Disbanded. (Leader was me)
VR- Vagrant Raiders, Disbanded, Was official, then unofficial. Last leader was me. (Best leader was Dream Theater) IFF and ID where Freelancer and Pirate ID.
Edit: TS| was The Society back when it was around, Leader was Russell. Dead as dead can be, unless someone else is using the tag now.
Edit 2: VPS- was/is Venator Private Security. Just remembered the name.
