Captains Log - Entry 11-06-819

Hey there whoever you might be. I was told all real captains keep a log, so that's what this is. My first log. I s'pose I should say something about myself, so here goes. I'm 24 years old and I was born somewhere in The Barrier Nebula, not entirely sure where... My parents were spacers, and I was born onboard their humble freighter while they were travelling and making a living. "Space hobos" they used to call them whenever we docked on stations and interacted with the locals, but my parents didn't seem to mind. I spent most on my upbringing in space going along with my parents on one wild adventure after another. When they finally settled down on Planet Gran Canaria a few years back, they gave me part of their savings and told me I should go do what makes me happy.

So I got drunk a lot and bought a fast ship until waking up sober one day without a dime in my pockets. I was stuck on Barrier Gate Station with no credits for fuel when this old geezer took pity on me. He said his name was captain Seamus O'Leary, and that I'd been drinking with him and his crew the night before in the bar, but I don't remember any of that. Anyways, I'm getting sidetracked... Old O'Leary gave me a datachip and told me to hold on to it and use it well, and that it was worth more than I could ever imagine before he slipped me a few credits for fuel. I haven't seen him since, and I doubt I ever will.

The datachip had captain O'Leary's trade routes on it, complete with information on different commodities and how to acquire them - and more importantly who to contact to sell the wares. Blood Diamonds, Human Organs, Cardamine, Artifacts... Items I have heard of before and knew were worth a fortune to the right people. So I took up a loan and did some asking around before finding a ship for sale, complete with crew. Their last captain died due to exposure to stellar radiation, but the crew ensured me that the damaged ship hull panels had been changed and that I needn't worry. They seem like a fine bunch. There's Derek the repair guy, Murphy takes care of navigation, Gerd rules the cargo bay like it was his little kingdom, grumpy Watanabe is in charge of communication (and cooking, he's an excellent chef) and Cindy, well I'm not really sure what she does, but she looks mighty important.

I'm down 30 million credits, and I have two weeks to repay them or hell will break loose, but I got 924 units of Artifacts in the cargo hold bound for Planet Manhattan and I feel optimistic embarking on my greatest adventure yet.

Who dares wins!

Captains Log - Entry 11-07-819

What the hell have my parents been doing?! When they retired, they barely had enough credits for a small house on Planet Gran Canaria and a check of 2,765,433 credits they sent my way... I took up a loan of 30 million yesterday, a small fortune if you'd asked me yesterday, and I paid it off already, including interests! This nav map is beyond my wildest dreams. So far we've hauled:

- Artifacts
- Basic Alloy
- Flora Gro
- Engine Components
- Luxury Food
- Holosculptures
- Tea
- Blood Diamonds
- Luxury Consumer Goods
- Nox
- Synthetic Weed
- Neon
- Platinum Ore

The crew has been quite excited about the places we've visited already. Grumpy Watanabe even let out a little smile when we were sampling the Luxury Food on Planet Cambridge. We went to Gallia, and it's really not as bad as everyone says - yes, they do have their ways, such as parking a fully souped up luxury liner inside a scrap field, but all in all I'd say they're quite ok. we're definitely going up there again some day.

Later on we crossed paths with some Platinum miners, a real friendly bunch. They showed us their base and sold us some Ore which landed us a pretty decent profit. Oh, and we also ran into a Corsair Cruiser, yes actual Corsairs like the ones from the scary stories. I was afraid they wanted to eat us or something, but the captain proved to be quite friendly too, although we did come out of the encounter with our pockets 1 million credits lighter.

We're docking at Barrier Gate as I am making this log entry. I got a good deal on an armor upgrade so we're leaving the bird in the hands of the technicians for tonight, while we go get smashed at the bar.
