Allow raids into Main Systems to wake up lazy defenders - Jack_Henderson - 11-09-2012

Hiho! I think it's time to touch a sensitive topic, but I strongly feel it should be discussed.

The situation over the last days has been the same (different houses, different sides that I was on):

A raid party assembles.
They meet no resistance or hardly any.
They stop where the admin word of power told them to stop (at a neighbouring system of the capital system).
They sit there and wait.
While the defenders just don't do anything.
After a while and some meaningles small gank-skirmishes against unorganised defenders who are tired of waiting and stalling and flying home bored... everybody flies home.

=> Everybody is pissed off.
=> Attackers for: bloody cowards, hide behind Admin skirt, can't even put up a fight.
=> Defenders: bloody gankers, oorp attackers, only idiots that bring caps here in such masses.

The last 3 days I often heard :

"Starving them out", I heard in the context.
"Not worth fighting", I heard a lot.
"Inpenetrable gate will keep them in Texas", I heard today.
"If you fight them, you only give them what they want", I was told a few moments ago.

Guys, seriously: This game is a space shooter.
=> Shoot - things - in - space!

I would ask Admins to lift the "Cannot raid capital systems" rule because it seems it needs that slap of seeing the raider in your home system for people to actually make an effort, log and defend what they should feel very dear about.

No one seems to care for attackers in the neighbouring system of your capital system any more.

If that is not reason enough to log, perhaps "Enemy in front of Manhattan, Berlin, London" would be a better motivator to make people actually put up an effort to defend, and thus create what this game was made for? (for those that forgot: epic space fights!)

Drop the ZoI restriction for raids that is utterly destructive for gameplay.

What is so difficult and bad if you just go in, fight, die and see it as part of the game? Any raid will sooner or later die in a capital system simply to the numbers. And nothing is lost or won anyway.

I really don't understand it. 3 days in a row, no real engagement with noteworthy resistance against a raid party that for sure took a lot of time to assemble, organise, etc. In the end, all walk away with a grudge.

I find the status disappointing, therefore... this post.

Have at it.

Don't see how that would change anything. Except for the fact that people would be able to farm npc caps easier.

I find it ironic that this is posted just as the 2te decide to come back for their lolraids.

I say, if you allow this crap, people will just get bored.

Having things like LSF and BDM are cool, because it allows for deep strikes into home systems without it being ridiculous, but if you start saying 'LOL! ALL DA INDIES CAN ATTACK CAPITAHL SYSTAHMS!' you're gonna have a ton of idiots /l1 /l2 engaging. Oh wait... We already have that. We just don't need more of it... Especially in home systems.

Heres the thing. If they are in thier home system and not wanting to come to you whilst your raiding. Chances are THEY DON'T WANT TO FIGHT.
Why should every single one of them jump at the chance to fight you? Maybe people are getting sick of fighting off these raids and feel like doing something else for a change? Why should people who don't feel like PvPing be dragged into a PvP fight? Just so you can get anouther Blue Message?

Edit: Re-worded. I automatically assumed this was yet anouther RNC whineing about LNS or vice versa thread.

Just to clarify: I was one of the Liberty defenders. I am not complaining because I did not get more blue message. I ofc became one. Smile But that's not the point.

You could always move some of your players to the defender side. Sending a large force to take on a couple of weak defenders produces sucky gameplay for both sides. You could ... I dunno... make the teams fair ... instead of asking admins to make the game more fun for your gank force.

¿Qué estás hablando?
Gamma Omicron ha sido atacado muchas veces.
Or, for the Non-Corsairs among us:
There is no such rule. It's more of a general guideline.
If you don't meet any resistance, raid away.

Jack , you seem to have too much faith in people.
Reality is this would be abused by camping bases , making everything that undocks a quick blue message.
I've seen this stuff happening before many times , it really takes away the fun of the game.
It made many people simply quit disco because they lost fun in clicking the undock button only to die after a /l1.

Rules and codes of conduct are there for a reason.
This game should be kept fun for everyone , not just a small group of players that wish to dominate the rest , because the rest will say ciao and move on, making this server duller and duller one at the time.

I disagree with you Jack. It would only make capships camp the docking ring and kill everything that comes out, as people mentioned above.

RE: Allow raids into Main Systems to wake up lazy defenders - AeternusDoleo - 11-09-2012

No. Just no. This will open the floodgates when combined with capital-versus-transport allowed if there's a group that does not HAVE many players with them. Do we want LibDreads tearing up New Berlin and all traders they can find? Do we want Rheinland Battleships zapping everyone in New York? Recent events have proven players WILL do that.
