Admin clarification needed: "may treat as combat target" - Pavel - 11-17-2012

So, what exactly that mysterious line means? So far my experience as DHC shows hessian cruisers meeting our ships just say " die daumann, you fascist pig!", or something similar, and instakill transport/freighter class ship. There are other IDs with that line, for example Molly ID (BMM), Hacker ID I believe (Ageira and IND), while there are many IDs lacking that, for example Outcast ID (IMG), or Blood Dragon ID (Samura).

What is correlation between "may treat" and rule 6.6 ?

This is a rp server.
Please erase ID lines that move the server closer to a pure "encounter = pvp with minimal rp" server.

There is nothing bad in forcing the attacker to at least make a demand, which is the real minimum of rp, because it is a conversation in which both can at least say 1 line and where roleplay has influence on the outcome.

Jack, the thing is that sometimes it wouldn't make RP sense to make a demand. As CR|, I'd be hitting a Gallic transport so that he can stop funding the Gallic economy (read: war machine). I can't really demand anything to stop that other than "fly into the sun". Pirating him for his 32 Beryllium ore isn't going to help, and I technically can't participate in unlawful actions which includes piracy - all I can do is murder, or uphold the specific contraband 'laws'.

Summer, it doesn't make sense for Corsairs, Outcasts, Rheinlanders, Libertonians, or any faction at war to do the same either :| but we have to anyway

@Pavel

The whole "May treat as a combat target" bit means exactly what it says.

The reason some ID's have it and others don't is pretty simple as well. Look at the nature of the different groups you listed.

Mollys and Hessians are groups with a political cause behind their actions, they're 'Terrorists' or 'Revolutionaries', as opposed to being common pirates like the Outcasts and Hackers, as such, they treat their enemies more like military targets than piracy marks.

And Blood Dragons-Samura "relationship" ? Outcasts hate IMG, they have base one jump away from Alpha and were for long time danger for cardamine smuggling operations in the Taus. There is even such flaw in logic as Kruger and GMG IDs don't rephacked at minimum as no-dock, but also lacking "cannot land at GMG/Kruger bases" line, what means GMG indies mine He-3 in Sigma-13 and sell it for almost 5k credits one jump away in Frankfurt at Mannheim. Kruger and GMG should be set hostile, like GMG and Samura. Outcasts also should treat Cryer IDed ships as combat targets, Cryer tries to invent synthetic, non-addictive cardamine. If we look for more IDs,we'll for sure find few more lacking "may treat" lines, for example Unioner ID doesn't have it, Unioners hate Republican.

I'll agree that it's all very inconsistent. The IDs could do with a review to see where these things are appropriate and where they're not, I guess.

Pretty much going to agree with Jammi here.

I have little knowledge of Hackers , but enough of OC to tell you they are anything but common pirates...

It's because most tradehaulers need only worry about pirates that need to make a demand. Some of these badguy faction, by lore, attack certain companies for other reasons then mere piracy. In essence they are terrorists to those companies and don't require making a pirate demand.
