Indie Nomad ID implementation - Alley - 12-03-2012

This post comes from the K'Hara leadership, however HuggieSunrise is a bit busy so I'm taking care of it instead.

We would to see the indie nomad ID that's already in the game files, just not available on any base, to be implemented with these edits. The original draft, that's actually in the game is the following:

Quote:Pilot carrying this ID is a Nomad, who :
Can freely engage any ship in the Omicrons, except for Omicron Alpha and Omicron Gamma.
Cannot leave the Omicrons.
Cannot demand credits.
Cannot land anywhere except Nomad or Wild bases.
Allowed ships: Nomad Fighters and Bombers

Our current edit version 3, as of 03/12/2012 is the following:

Quote:Pilot carrying this ID is a Nomad, who :
Can engage any ship.
Cannot engage Nomads.
Cannot engage Wilde except in self-defense.
Cannot enter House space, Cortez, Magellan, Bering, Hudson, Kepler, Galileo, Sigma-13, Omega-3, Omega-7, Tau-31 and Tau-29 except if flying with a K'Hara| Official Faction ship.
Cannot demand credits.
Cannot demand cargo except Human pilots and Nomad items.
Cannot land anywhere except Nomad or Wild bases.
Allowed ships: Nomad Fighters, Nomad Bomber, Nomad Gunboat

Capships are not available on this ID to prevent potentially harmful players from abusing them, especially the Irra due to it's 120 impulse speed. Indie Players can get a cap by asking for a K'Hara ID to the nom leadership or simply by joining the faction.

Suggestions are welcome.

Given the current state of things, this seems like a sound request, I'll make sure it gets noticed.

The not entering house capitols solution is pretty lame, makes no sense in RP really. Rest is all okay.

If you have a better idea please do tell, that's why this thread is here.

I do. Leave it in there and have people deal with it. Then again I've never catered to spineless whiners.

I am for Nomads having basically no restrictions, however I think that the original ID might be the best bet, just because people are more likely to accept it.

Omicrons are a dead land. Restricting Indie Nomads to them would be as effective as not implementing this ID at all. This is why instead we'd like to give them access to all of sirius but in a manner that keeps this balanced so potential mingebags do not abuse this ID (as ID wise nomads aren't that from a terrorist ID), which is why capital ships aren't included.

If a majority of interested people want to give them access to core worlds, then so be it. However don't whine afterwards if you get a CGSlike group on nomad indie ID rampaging everything on scanners in core systems.

A different approach to "cannot enter the systems" could be "cannot engage anyone in the systems".

If you read above, the forum is talking about 'indie' nomads. These rules can still not apply to you if you join the K'hara as stated above, I don't think its that much of a trade-off if you cannot enter home world systems unless you have a different nomad ID.

I predict this suggestion will cause a lot of folks to make nomad alts to "terrorise" players or factions they do not like. The Nomads do not have any restrictions on who or what they can attack, so they end up being the universal "*** (pews!) ***" group. That's why they are limited to the Omicrons - because that is where their current powerbase is.

The ID as you propose it, could see quite a number of "nomads" on the tradelanes and in the mining areas, just lolengaging anything they see. That kind of thing has happened before. So I'm not in favor of this at all. Furthermore, the Wilde are the Nomads presence inside the houses and in the borderworlds. If the Nomads go there themselves, it makes the Wilde obsolete.
