Locking unofficial faction threads - Muleo - 06-04-2008

Lately, admins and mods have been locking threads posted by groups which aren't official, or seeking official status.

I'm talking about (most recently) SoW, Incom. They posted to let everyone know who they are, and maybe some feedback so they can improve their RP as a group.

However these threads have been locked because they didn't pay the 500 million credit deposit for faction requests...

Am I the only that sees this as extremely counter-productive? I'm seeing a lot of newbie 'clans' coming from other servers, and it disgusts me, but at least the ones posting on the forums are willing to listen to the community, but they're being silenced.

They're not asking for official status, they're not asking for mod/admin feedback, so surely there's no reason to lock those threads? All they're doing is letting themselves be known, and asking for community feedback as to what they think about their RP and such...

Just what I think..
Mule.

It should only be locked if its a faction creation request that hasn't paid.. Unofficial faction feedback threads don't deserve to be locked.. But what forum section were they in? If the feedback section, than they shouldn't be locked..

Nope they're just in the RP factions general forum, not the Faction request forum.

Mods are saying posting RP story and wanting feedback is 'cheating' and locked the threads until 500 million is paid... Which I think it very counterproductive..

If they had no intention of paying the fee or making the faction official then the post should of been in the flood section. That's my reasoning of it.

What is so bad about un-official Rp factions? I know of serveral that exist and are a great thing. Why are we locking threads? I am sure I am missing something, our admins wouldnt squelch RP like you are discribing.

Technically most of the factions here are 'unofficial'. Of course, they've been assimiliated into officiality, but did the SA pay 500 mill? The LSF? The RM? Even Bs|?

Certainly not. So why lock the imports' threads when all the big players of Disco started out the same way? Taking this road, I say we completely destroy all factions, have them re-write their long-buried backgrounds, and take most of their bank. Only fair, yes?

Some may argue that they were made before the policy, but the point remains that it is unfair to the imports trying to get help on the matter.

Hmm. Sounds like a plan. All official clans pay 500 million to ensure that every clan is treated fairly.

Admins and Mods,
Please don't lock down faction discussion threads.
If you do, you are becoming Censors and Heavyhanded.
You cut off discussion that may need to be talked about.
That and it stops people from giving valuable feedback.

God, I hope these Forums don't become a Police State.

We already do that on the server. (Police state thing.) It makes sense to continue the tradition.

The 500 Million credit policy was instituted to make sure that anyone who tried to apply for a faction seriously considered the creation of a faction on a RP basis before applying. At least, after they've considered it enough to be willing to risk 500 Million Credits to actually give it a shot.

However, I am confused as to why no feedback has been directed at the faction posts of HGL, OPG, and a few other faction possibles.

If the problem is that these factions lack the 500 mil in payment, the thread should be locked, and an explanation given. No one should just be made to suffer in denial of knowledge for so long.

I am very fond of the admins we have here, and am sure that there is some other reason there has been no response. Being unable to find this reason, however, I am forced to say that I find this unacceptable.

I am currently waitlisted at my top-choice college. I know how painful the wait can be, especially when your college gives you no response, whatsoever. It is much worse than receiving a "yes" or even a "no." It's real-life, it's more important than Discovery, and it's not a pleasant experience. But the it's not too different from Discovery either. I think that the faction leaders who slaved over their faction requests and answered barrages of questions with their time should at least deserve an answer, even if it is a "no."
