Bring back smuggling and blockade running - sindroms - 01-04-2013

You know what I remember?

I remember LNS and LPI sitting in Texas, watching people smuggling stuff to Rheinland.

I remember sitting next to Malta was always amusing, when you had a constant and I do mean constant stream of Zoners, Freelancers, Junkers and outcast/rogue transports transporting slaves, software and fuel and bringing back Cardamine. I remember jumphole camping and the drama around LNS and Rochester and Beaumont.

I remember having on my IMG and GMG, catching smugglers in the Taus and Sigmas.





Though it sort of is not the case any more. None of the factions smuggling stuff, apart from OC and Corsair IDs allow 5kers. Boost the prices, please. And if you are squirmy about jump trading, change the price of fuel sold on the unlawful bases. I am sure something can be done with it.

The amount of poop storm that can be caused by being caught by some freelancer outside Malta or Crete is simply too risky. The games people play to enjoy their pew pew at other people's expense has made smuggling as a past time for factions a big no no and tiresome.

I fully agree.

I can still remember the good times, when we've done smuggling runs together with LR and [RHA] or LR and 81-S.
But since .86 the prices got changed, and smuggling got less profitable than common trading, and thus people stopped doing smuggling convoys together. Why should they risk their cargo, being destroyed by LNS spam, when they can do more cash in a IC or Freelancer 5k'er?

The profit for smugglers has to be increased by at least 25%.

Agreed.

Personally I only have lawful traders and besides 2 VHF's and 1 bomber I use to aid in raids for certain groups I don't focus on PvP at all.

And my biggest love is smuggling, which I still do now and then, but my interest for that has dwindled because profit is low (mind you most of my smuggling I do I use freighters for, but I have other ships capable for bigger smuggling actions) and because the chance of getting caught in the act is actually somewhere around 10%. Now if do get caught it means I end up bribing the officer/law/merc in question, but I haven't been caught for quite some time. Either I have become good, or sindroms has a solid point. And I would opt for the latter.

Bump smuggling! It needs to get exicitng again!

I disagree; We in the Unione Corse are smuggling Cryocubes out of Gallia on occasion to player-bases a fair bit depending on if someone contracts us, though we do a lot of lawful trading when there's no contract so it's difficult to try and catch us. That, and the fact we finish our Cryocube contracts extremely quickly, means there's only a small window of opportunity for the most part.
Despite the supposed lack of RP in Gallia, we're often there ready for anyone who is interested in that too.

[UC] don't have access to 5k-ers, best we can use is the Gallic Vache 4k train or L'anne transport, other than our flagship Luculus. And we've smuggled with them enough that we should be raising police sirens.
A 5k'er transport isn't needed for a Smuggler, anyway; Too sluggish.

Stop smuggling in barges.

My personnal statement: nuke several bases in Gallia and re-use their codes (or whatever it is called) as smuggler satelites at points of interest for freighter usage.

This I actually agree with, not my idea to smuggle in Barges anyway. However, it was right outside Malta. That should be far enough away from others to not be able to simply take some screen shots and use them as bait. What's to stop anyone from simply stationing a freelancer IDed ship at FP 10 and anytime a Congress tagged ship comes through, undocking, taking screens and sending them to others? It's taking it one step too far and destroys future attempts at smuggling. It simply is just not worth it.

It other words, Planet Malta and Planet Crete need to be completely off limits for catching smugglers if you want to actually have smuggling continue.

Make smuggling so overpowered, that people feel compelled to do it.

Watch stuff happen everywhere, it will boost police etc. activity and therefore unlawful etc.

It's at least worth a try, right ?

My point Scavenger is that 5k, freighter or your gunboat-transport hybrid would be capable to quickly dissapear or run away denying such freelancers occasion. Smuggler's weapon is evasion of harmful individuals and their hosts ability to provide safety/escort.

Barge is simply... seen from 5134120371230531k distance and it cannot even run.

If smuggling would take off again police will get automatically active again, I assume. Action = reaction.
