GMG MINING NOT WORKING! - winn - 01-06-2013
Me and my buddy are trying to mine. I am the miner, he is the transporter, i am trying to figure out how to mine without jettisoning it every minute. I heard you can transfer it without trading, or jettisoning it. I have him targeted, but it is still not working. Can someone help me figure out what is going on?

well...if your friend Is far than usuall...keep his ship at 500 meters.
make sure you got GMG or Kishiro or Samura ID and IFF.
Only mining ships which i suggest are: Kamome + Full mining turrets. found at amori Station.
Anki : 4 mining turrets is a Must. rest is variable, found at IC base near Planet new tokyo.
GMG miner...Garanuchu or something dont recall well, any way..you can get it from Okinawa system/ Fujisawa station.
if you cannot mine your friend still , Press CTRL + T , this will dis Choose all targets. then choose Transport and
start mining. if it didnt work again,...you got a problem...cuz here. it Works

I'd suggest being within 400 meters, and make sure you're *almost* on the Gas Miner you're mining at-- The h-3 tends to show up around the center areas of the miner (hope this helps).
If all else fails, your ID/IFF may not be matching up correctly which may be nerfing your mining abilities

Thanks for the help. It still dosent seem to be working. I also have one question. what is a IFF? and where do i get it?

Congratz. You have found the problem of your failure to mine: The IFF.
The IFF is short for "Identification Friend or Foe". Take a look at your reputation sheet, the one right at the bottom and flashing is your IFF. Make sure your IFF corresponds to your ID in order to gain mining bonuses. To gain more reputation with the GMG, do missions for them.
If some other faction is flashing, use the /droprep command to drop that particular faction's rep. Although this would cost you roughly 300k if I remember correctly.
Mining bonuses only occur when you have a matching ID and IFF, a mining ship and a mining turret. Other than that, expect slow rates.

Well Zynth, IFF is not a problem but its distance between the trader and you. Also be sure to be close to a gas miner so that the trader and miner are close and they can do it properly.

I'd beg to differ. IFF is required for mining, at least for the miner, not the hauler, take a look at the mining guide:

Trust me, I'm part of the IMG|, I know quite a bit about mining. Although I do agree, that the hauler needs to be in close proximity with the miner.
