The Liberty Navy. - Jihadjoe - 02-14-2013 So, I've recently been made rather aware of the fact the way I live is changing. I'm more busy, have less free time, and don't have the same degree of attention I can give to the [LN]. I'm working significantly more as well as developing two of my own pieces of theatre. This is likely to keep me extremely busy through to the summer. After that, I'll be travelling around a little and then heading back into study for the first time since I was about 21. Exciting times. So I came to realise that I can't put the effort into running the [LN] that it deserves. The [LN] are, in my opinion, a group of the finest individuals that disco has to offer. They're funny, varied, creative and entertaining people. A generally awesome bunch. It's been an absolute pleasure leading you lot for so long. There have been good times, lame times, brilliant story-making, awesome fights, hell... even some of the forum PvP was fun. But I can't do it forever. As a result I'm handing the [LN] over to Asgardian and Lolrawr. I will stay on as a high command member if they ask me to. However my time investment in the game will be dropping significantly. I couldn't ask for a finer pair of people to hand the faction over to. Their job will be to take the faction forward from where it is now. I'm willing to help them in that. The way they form the new high command will be entirely down to them. It is important that a new leader of any faction is able to bring the people to them that will create a full team. A high command team has to be varied and balanced, with a good mix of skills and attributes between its members. I'm sure they will find the people they need. Anyway, Sarah and Rhys... Take care of it. Last time I attempted to do this, I made a rather rash descision in terms of who took the leadership of the faction. This time I am completely secure in the knowledge these two people are the right people for the job. ------------ Fleet Admiral David Hale will officially retire from the High Command but will be on hand to serve as a negotiator and advisor. Unofficially and off the record, he will be conducting work specifically against the Nomad threat. RE: The Liberty Navy. - Jeremy Hunter - 02-14-2013 *salutes* It was an awesome ride Joe. It was an honor. RE: The Liberty Navy. - Soul Reaper - 02-14-2013 *salutes* And that's the second time I'm seeing the Fleet Admiral step down. All of them are pretty damn hardcore leaders, was an awesome run Joe. RE: The Liberty Navy. - jammi - 02-14-2013 I hope things go better this time when you leave the helm. Looking at the HC line up, I imagine that'll be the case though. The common denominator of [LN] members is that they are willing to completely throw navy RP, common player courtesy, and simple non disco-politics driven RP overboard in the favor of making things pleasant for members of various allied power- and gear-mongering skypegangs, and unpleasant for people who simply played a RP role or who were not in one of those gangs. I can see why YOU think they are the most awesome people around. When ever it came to admin-backed hassling of people (QCP vs TAZ, QCP vs Emperor Zelot, Yalalal&Co vs Mudd, those-who-must-never-lose vs Indians and RNC), or when it came to placing power-interest over willingness to talk things out with honesty and without sensorship (Akumabito, moi, Mudd, Waratah, D.I, Finnigan, Ursus, Anaximander), or when it came to saving all the OP gear and super-privileges including immunity from rules or RP consequences to select people (phantoms, keepers, K'hara, reavers, IND), you were always there to side with the greedy, the dishonnest, and generally those who get kicks out of having privileges and being lame towards others while telling them it's fair. You were always there to tell us that rules are only fair when applied selectively, that trial by forum is bad except when you do it, and when others back it with proof its downright evil, that gear isnt overpowered but too overpowered to be available for everyone, that ID permissions are balanced but cant be available for everyone because that wouldnt be balanced, that the only way to play fair is to put the PvP-pros into stronger ships with more ID permissions in one team, and force the team with less PvP skill and worse gear to fight them in equal numbers in their crappier ships of same class. That 2 + 2 is 5 if "the party" says it is, and if someone doesnt agree to it, there is no place for them here. The most fascinating thing about you was always how you were able to completely fool yourself into believing that what you are doing is right, as long as the people who you were handing out the goodies to backed you up for doing so, and as long as you keep posting cool music and shutting up any desenting voices with bans, locks, and invisiblizations. It' this systen that brought us balanced, overly competent, and downright brilliant factions leaders like... Huggie Sunrise. Jeremy Hunter. Alley (even made it to moderator!). Which every one of 9-year-olds left in the nomads is leading them at the moment. Like in every dictatorship, leadership is handed down from one senile moron to the even more senile one. As long as there were enough people who were willing to say that 2+2=5 and receive their shiny super-special-ship, and the people who say it isnt keep winding up dead, "the party" knows they must be right. Different people are gifted in different ways, I guess this is your special gift. Alas, even when you and some of your friends are gone, your fall-out of all the warped ideas of whats fair and what isnt, together with the similarly retarded people you left in high positions, will still be there. Can't wait for your advisor-chief-pikatchu-nomad-fighter RP that you annonced, while you 4 or 5 guys keep hogging the faction and crippling the better part of the mod by doing it. RE: The Liberty Navy. - Veygaar - 02-14-2013 Dude chillax... Karl? (Although I agree on the PvP "fairness" crap some people like to sling around, and downgrade those who think differently) Anyways, Joe, can I haz your stuff? Bang goes the hammer. RE: The Liberty Navy. - Anaximander - 02-14-2013 Well best of luck to you Joe, I don't see eye-to-eye with you on a lot of things (and in fact I think you could on a personal level benefit a lot from reflecting over what was said in the quote highlighted by Jammi above) but it's always sad when someone who put in a lot of work, time and dedication towards the mod and community steps down. I hope you will stick around and perhaps use the opportunity to experience Disco in a different light. Honestly, when I was still a newbie on Disco, and before I was in the [LN], I was intimidated by you, or rather, what I had heard through other people about you, and the [LN] as a whole. This was of course, back when I was in the LPI-, and flying only indie navy caps. Then I joined the [LN], in what, 2009? and as time went on, what I found was by far, the greatest group of people that I've had the pleasure of knowing here on Disco, and of course, I got to know -you-, instead of just accepting things I'd heard from others. I saw the work you put into keeping everyone working together, and on the same page, I saw the effort you put into making sure that the [LN]'s members were decent people in general, to one another, and to outsiders as much as possible, and I saw how you tried to be available for people when they'd have troubles, and I quickly learned that I had no reason to be intimidated by you. (unless your patience was completely worn out and you'd slam the [LN] chat with walls of text XD) I'll try as best I can to help keep the [LN] functioning the way it has been, and I know that I have no objections to you staying on as an adviser and such, I hope you'll still hop on Skype or Steam now and then though, to shoot the breeze. (elsewise who will I talk music, philosophy, religion, and politics with? xD) Anyway, It's been great, and I hope that I've taken away enough from working the [LN] with you, to keep it going the right way. ALSO!!!! the [LN] chat will -always- be The Lair of the Nuclear Joe 8| xD Really though, You're a stellar person, and I'm glad that we became friends, and like I said above, I hope you'll stay in touch. |
