a nice clean discussion about... - frozen - 06-19-2008 ... the fact, that we need more admins, and maybe even the concept of server police. why? heres my side of the story. Lately, have you seen whats happening around us? Discovery is increasing in size drastically day by day, with an influx of every type of player, which includes roleplayers, complete randoms, oorpers, whiners, genuine players, etc. On top of that, the admins have a life, just like we all do. we surely cannot expect them to be admining disco 24/7, because lets face it, they aint getting paid for it, they are taking out their own free time to admin a server, which is growing drastically. Look at the size of discovery. how many people do you reckon are currently part of the Discovery database? over 20k? and now, lets count the number of admins we have...korrd, caylith, hoodlum, ac_merc, xoria, igiss (hes the developer, i dont even expect him to be admining >.> ), kane, and majkp, the server owner. do you see the teeeny weeeny bit of a problem there? i do. now, this is what i suggest. we need to employ more admins, and ive definitely got a few people in my mind, who id love to nominate (so to speak) as admin [but that comes later. i wanna see if people even support my idea], and maybe 'baby admins', more like server police. these people pretty much fly camera ships with admin powers, but they have the ability to just do 2 things. .kick, or .ban (dunno if limiting admin powers is possible, but its jut a suggestion atm. we could argue what powers they get, but that comes later) i know in the past that people would rather avoid the idea of server police, but tell me, after everything thats happening (increasing oorp behaviour, sanction reports that dont get done, etc [no offence admins], vets leaving left right and center, power playing [to an extent], etc ), dont tell me youve never even had even a slightest thought about such things? now, discuss, in a nice and civil manner please. no flaming, and certainly no picking on each other. for those that incidentally end up avoiding this warning, read: MORE ADMINS, AND MAYBE SERVER POLICE. mmkay? go! a nice clean discussion about... - DBoy1612 - 06-19-2008 More admins couldn't really hurt if they stick to what the current ones are doing. /signed a nice clean discussion about... - AdamantineFist - 06-19-2008 More admins, yes. Absolutely, it would be terrific. Help get the job done, keep things in line, etc. Server police? I dunno... We'd have to be very careful there. That's thin ice. a nice clean discussion about... - Eppy - 06-19-2008 More of every authority figure, Admins, Mods, anything that has a BAN button, and prefferably one who doesn't have to file a report to fire on a behavior he's seen. a nice clean discussion about... - Heartless - 06-19-2008 Yup, agreed. Nominations? a nice clean discussion about... - Reverend Del - 06-19-2008 I'd have to agree, whilst the admins we have active at the moment are doing a truly epic job of making things work, we are getting increasing problems, just look at the sanction threads, they've been growing in size by nearly a page everyday. It's time we looked at this problem seriously. More players means we need more watchful eyes. Now I'd prefer them to be Admins, as that cuts down the possibiltiy of folks getting huge egos, because they have a tiny bit of power. But if that's not possible or probable then we need to look at the possibility of server police with exceptionally limited power. a nice clean discussion about... - Tenacity - 06-19-2008 /raises hand /jumps frantically /votes for himself /forces others to vote for him at gunpoint Behold mah admin powahz! ... and they call rheinlanders fascists... I do agree though, more admins would help out, but the problem is you have to make sure the people you're appointing that position are very trustworthy and very patient/open minded... Myself being a perfect example of who NOT to appoint as an admin :P Also, consider that being an admin is a very stressful, frustrating job... you gotta sit around all day and slap people around with the ban hammer, and you never really get to have any fun on your own time. not a position I'd want at any rate (though, I was a server admin a long time ago for a vanilla FL server, as well as a few BF1942 servers). a nice clean discussion about... - chovynz - 06-19-2008 How about setting up guidelines for the "server police"? I.e they are the LPI giving out tickets (friendly advice) when they see OORP or OOC, but not interfering in Role play? a nice clean discussion about... - frozen - 06-19-2008 ' Wrote:Also, consider that being an admin is a very stressful, frustrating job... you gotta sit around all day and slap people around with the ban hammer, and you never really get to have any fun on your own time. not exactly true, because you dont have to be always on the admin character. you can be an admin on another char, and if you happen to witness an OORP thing, or summit, you can always log on your admin char, and sort things out. admin character or not, you can still do your admin duties methinks? yeah, have fun playing, but dont let the oorpers ruin the fun totally eh? EDIT: heres a suggestion. the Angels have characters that are there to help and guide new players. maybe upgrade their ability to 'hurt the bad guys as well'? or *laughs* give the Angels a special death squad:laugh: a nice clean discussion about... - RickJames - 06-19-2008 NO SERVER POLICE. NOT EVER. :nono:There would be no way to keep them from becoming the A-Hole posse. In addition, it would make tons more work for the admins. If someone is mature enough to police the player base they should just be made an admin. None of this middle ground stuff. It just leads to more drama. More admins...yes...oh yes..yes please..many more admins do we need. :yahoo: |
