A sense of purpose - Scumbag - 03-11-2013

I just saw thread about an outcast invasion in corsairs space, and the first thing that came to my mind was: So what? They flew about for a couple of minutes, they killed the few who resisted and then they left as bored as they came. That also happens everywhere there is an interesting junction point: Manhattan: emergency, pirates!!! Sooo.. what? Everyone docks and the pirates leave being bored. Java station: IMG goes: emergency energency: soooo... what? You get my point by now. We need something to RP about, everyone cries that there is no RP but what can you RP about? Of course people allways go for the blue message, there is nothing else to go for. There should be a sense of purpose, if factions invade one another space (Rheinland - Liberty; Galia - Bretonia) there should be an objective, not just the blue mesage. Something along the lines of a series of depots to be destroyed for a big reward or a station destroyable module with a big respawn time.

The same principle applies to bounties and general blue messages. A bounty is posted on your head: so what? They die, they respawn and 2 hours later they come back not caring one bit about your bounty.

I really want to RP about things but seriously i dont have much to RP about, everything is centered around the blue message and i have to RP about that. Is this only my problem or do any of you have the same feeling?

Try new factions and talk to neutral/friendly people.

If you want hell of an action happening as well, Omicrons have a reneissance right now.

BTW, destroyable bases sound bad actually... but they may have destroyable part for RP, so if it's destroyed - base counts as destroyed. This one should have much, MUCH HP and maybe regen over time.

Two words:
Territory Control.

We have factions claiming that they will capture system A or B, but they'd never be able to with the current game.
So why not make some systems capturable? Then battles would have REAL importance.
Imagine if Rhienland captured Texas. It could make for some interesting battles with real strategy and tactics.

But that would ultimately lead to Xenos capturing Gallia.

I agree completely, people die, but come back fine, its boring. Thats why I started playing on shiploss on death mode, to add a sense of risk/progress. I suggest that some POBs, built INTEDED to be destroyed, could be the basis for some fun territory control RP. Such as a level 1 base with a wep platform or two, on each side of a contested JH.

Also see my idea for npc admin-base capturing here:http://discoverygc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=87004

You make it sound like capturing Gallia would be a cakewalk.

Territory control would be awesome!

What if house military factions were able to dock on hostile bases and maybe planets and could offload marines, weapons, military vehicles, food rations, ect, and when they had docked with enough they would capture the base.

It could be kind of like suppling a player base is now, you'd need X amount of each supply item delivered per tick to keep the invasion going.

This would make roleplaying the multiple wars going on more fun and give house military factions some action, and shift their focus away from chasing pirates, which in my opinion should be the house police job.

Imagine the roleplay potential of setting up a supply line and maybe forward operating bases. Military protecting battle transports on the way in to hostile territory.

As it stands now, I agree, there's no reason to fight the wars going on, because you can never put boots on the ground per se.

RE: A sense of purpose - SMGSterlin - 03-12-2013

This has been semi-suggested before, in a thread where someone suggested a capturable base in both Rheinland and Liberty for the sake of giving the LNS and RNC something concrete to fight over in their skirmishes.

Like (I think) I said there, I like the idea, but you don't want to make Disco a tower defence game...

I dont want to make it tower defence, i just want something to give you an accomplishment in raids. I never said teritory control, thats dictated by RP right now, and i dont want that kind of change.
