*sounds space sirens* Could this work? + [poll] - lIceColon - 03-21-2013

Dear all pilots of house police Sirius + Gallic wide
Ever notice how when stopping ships for inspection it's always "xxxxx halt" or "xxxxx stop"? When hailing a pirate, you always start with... I dunno, but I have been halted once in my camara days (as licecolon) when I didn't read law and didn't realize rheinland guns were illegal in liberty.
So basically every now and then I log on to my LPI ship and pull people over. And when I do, I make sure to sound my space sirens. For several reasons -
1. "*sounds space sirens*" is a general purpose phrase and can be used on any player (or npcs if you're pathetic and/or live in my timezone), therefore it makes a good phrase you can macro to the speed chat thingy.
2. *sounds space sirens* differentiates you from pirates. Less observant people like myself often don't try to find out who people are when we are halted, when someone halts me I automatically assume its a pirate and go all evasive and *hit (eventually I get stopped being the terrible pilot I am, but that is another story).
3. *sounds space sirens* could become a police-only phrase which pirates can't use, which furthers #2.
4. *sounds space sirens* adds to the RP, and this guy agrees with me:
Quote:
[21.03.2013 10:43:34] Junker.Conveyor: // its good, it adds more RP
5. Space sirens strike fear into the hearts of all pirates space-wide. "halt, rogue" sounds laughable (and those swashbucklers would surely laugh at you unless you're in a much more superior ship), but space sirens are not just a signal, it's a symbol. Much like the ideology behind batman.
6. Frankly, if you're the police and in a space police car, sounding your space sirens might be the only logical first thing to do. The second thing to do could be reading them their space miranda rights or something. Tell them they were speeding, whatever.

Yours truly,

[indie lpi] Halt

ps. can indie lpi use gunships? Halt would join the LPI player faction, except that they might steal his awesome designation and give it to someone who actually deserves the name "Halt". Okay halt is terrible at pew pew, so the only good lpi he makes is a lazy lpi.

The idea is not bad, 'xept that vacuum doesn't transfer sound well... Wink

Wouldn't it work if the sirens are transmitted through a direct transmission into the comms console of the targeted ship?

Could be broadcast, and people would hear it through their own ships.

I'd assume you hear them the same way you hear (cruise) engines charging up, the pewpewpew of your own and others' guns, and.. more of that stuff.

I like your style kid, you're hired.

Wait, I can't do that anymore. Damn.

As far as sirens, the LPI has done without them for a while, and they'll continue doing without them. Running lights (which you can edit on any shipyard) are enough to give a feel for police sirens without the noise.

Hi Sir

Yes it can work as they had it on 24/7Heaven server where I was and admin (now a dead server) and the police officials/admin/angels had sirens to their ships when they were pulling over members (i.e. and Admin function)

Many ships have ship light hardpoints that can be controlled manually. You could at least have strobes on those and use them as the light portion of the siren.

Except it wouldn't instill fear. It would be like "Oh cool I can pew pew now."

Somebody needs to import something that sounds like WHEEEEEWW Hand over the donuts!

But seriously, do what I do. Go to the shipyard, ship section, pimpship, then set the docking lights on one side to blue strobes, docking lights on the other side to red strobes, and these can be turned on and off with the dock lights on/off hotkey.
