Base supplies and Storage Module petition - Geodin - 03-21-2013

It is my current understanding (please correct me if I am wrong), that a PoB that possesses a level 4 core requires: 800FOW per 24 hours and 10800 Basic Alloys per 24 hour period? Level 1: which has a 30k starting storage (is this correct?) Has a 200FOW requirement per 24 hours and the same BA requirements. So a level one core could only hold roughly 2 1/2 days worth of supplies at anyone time without a Storage Module built?

My question is: Does this Basic Alloy requirement seem too high to you? Because it does to me.

I like the dynamic economy situations that are arising from PoBs and I honestly wouldn't change the FOW requirements (although you may dis/agree).

I'm not sure how the BA requirement is coded so I don't know how this would be done but I want everyone's opinion. Because I'd like to see more actual RP occurring and less overall faction time spent maintaining a base. I wouldn't change the building process at all.

My suggestion is to cut the BA daily requirement in half (5400units/24hours) so that more of it can be stored for longer periods of real time in quicker amounts of time. This is to make bases easier to manage for factions with fewer people who don't have access to certain resources (like barges), while still maintaining the original (oorp) reasons for having a decay rate (to keep utterly inactive bases from cluttering space).

My second suggestion is to increase initial lvl 1 core Storage to 60k, and increase Storage Modules to match the 60k (instead of the 30k and 40k respectively as it is now)

Do you agree with me? If yes, why? If no, why not?
Your input is appreciated! Please vote in the poll so we can see this come down to a much more reasonable level.

Thank you in advance,
Geodin
Your neighborhood friendly drunk.

Already mentioned this to you on Skype, but the BA (or other material) rate has been reduced to what I believe is 7200 per day, which alleviates things somewhat.

Bases are already far too resilient to blockading as is. While there is no way to balance the "destroy it with caps without crashing the server, but giving defenders/owners time to notice" situation, it should be possible to starve it out in a reasonable amount of time. If they catch your base early on, they should have a chance to remove it. Get your defences built quickly...

I'd say the "Invincible base" situation isn't all that big a problem. It's just far too easy to get to without people noticing.

If the resources required to get there were substantially higher, and more importantly, took very long to consume (a couple days of consumption for a core upgrade?), then at least we'd see a lot less core 4 bases and a lot more core 1s that "fulfill their purpose, are pretty hard to kill, but not invincible".

Making them more of a pain in terms of upkeep seems like a bad idea. It already gets old really, really quickly to have to log on every day just to drop some BA into a base.

Starving out a base should be possible as well if you have dedicated players to do so. I don't see a way to make that easier that wouldn't have some annoying repercusions as well, though.

Substantially increasing the fuel consumption for shields, for example, would mean that lower core bases or bases with fewer storage modules would be filled up to the brim with fuel, and a pesky starflier or two could be very, very costly and force even the most dedicated players and factions to give up.

Isn't FOW consumed every 10 hours? It was the last time I used the Player base Guide...

Raising storage module capacity is an interesting idea. An extra five or ten thousand cargo space would definitely make the modules more convenient, but I'm guessing they were specifically sized in accordance with survey/jump drive manufacturing requirements.

Yes, it'd be the number of Crew consuming one unit of each every 10 hours. So 200x2.4 per day (minimum) for a Core 1 base.

I thought FOW had been reduced to 200 per core per 24 hour period? That it was off the 10 hour cycle? Confirmation please!

Thank you so far everyone.
Everyone else, please vote!
