Pirating ships - Will Wright - 04-15-2013

Can we pirate in ships larger than a gunboat as the wiki says that you cannot. However in the rules it does not mention it.

You can pirate in any ship you like as long as you follow your ID and the RP and ZOI it follows.

In all cases the wiki is an unofficial document, not a reliable rules reference. If you want an "expert opinion", use a bomber or a transport to pirate. A bomber has enough firepower to tear apart traders, can kill amateur VHFs, and is good for escaping. A transport can fence stolen cargo like ore, and you can make a good amount of money even farming the lawful NPCs for their commodities.

Of course if you want blue messages you could use a cruiser like a Corvo.

Uhh, yeah. Don't rely on wiki, it's heavily outdated, just check the ID's. They used to say that you can only pirate with ships up to gunboat, but now they don't. Just make sure you role-play.

Pirate in a GB or a Bomber. Pirating in a Cruiser is plainly boring and it makes no sense for a Cruiser commander to go pirate :|

Same for GBs, but at least GBs make more sense then Cruisers.

The wiki isn't supposed to be a resource for server rules either, as they vary between every single Discovery server - content on it should be server-agnostic unless otherwise is stated on the page. Therefore, if you ever see a mention of a server rule, don't trust it and head to the official list of rules on whichever server you play on instead. For most Discovery players, there's a link to the RP 24/7 server rules in the sidebar on the wiki for that exact purpose.

PS: And unlike most content on the wiki, the server rules change relatively often compared to, let's say, a ship or equipment page.

If you're hardcore, pirate in a freighter. Most transports don't buy armor and are easy to kill with freighter turrets/guns plus mines.

And freighters have great survivability since they can thrust away from lawful caps, and kill the average snub.
Not to mention the higher cruise speed, which is always nice.
And finally, if you kill a transport you can take their stuff and get a good handful of credits.
